Here, we think, in most cases will be found the secret of the difference in the rank of teachers. Ask that accomplished instructor where he acquired his facility in imparting knowledge, in making the obscure plain, and the distasteful interesting; and we doubt not, with scarce an exception, he will answer, from careful and continued self-drilling at home, consummated by the daily experience of the school-room. Other professions, the clerical, legal, and medical, demand of their members constant study in private to fit them for public duty; and can we hope to make our calling rank with these without a similar course of discipline?
