Excerpt from The Lineal Ancestors of Edward Morris and Mercy Flynt, of Wilbraham, Mass While preparing The Genealogical History of the Descendants of Edward Morris, of Roxbury, Mass, I became so much interested in the families with which I found my own family connected, that I have traced them back as far as possible, for my own pleasure. I have thought the work worth preserving, and have had printed a few copies for the use of others who may be interested in [family history. I have traced this connection with thirty-six families twenty-th ree on my father' s side, and thirteen on the side of my mother. The list, of course, is not complete, and I regret that I have not been able to make it more so, - especially on the side of my mother. It 'will be seen that the ancestors of both families are nearly all of pure English origin, if, indeed, they may not be considered entirely so; for those families - with perhaps one.or two exceptions - which are of Welch extraction; or of toontinental origin, date back to a period so remote from that of the settlement of New England, as to make them essentially pure English families. Several of the families are known to be from the county of Essex, and without doubt others are also. All are old New Eng land Puritan stock, having come to New England before 1656, and it is a matter of no little pride that so many of them were Roxbury families, for they were the best that came from England.
