Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: November 6, 1924 Latter-day Saints have received the light freely and freely they must give, said President Clawson, and they can not escape the responsibility. He concluded with a testimony and the prayer expressed that the Saints will glorify the Lord. Elder Melvin J. Ballard, the next speaker, read from the Doc trine and Covenants a revelation in which the Lord admonishes the Saints to have faith in the prophecies of ancient times and in the assurance that these are the days in which the prophecies shall be fulfilled and wherein it is promised that these things are to be revealed through the Priesthood of God. The Latter-day Saints, said Elder Ballard are a people with a destiny and with a mission. They did not aspire to it, the Lord appointed them to that calling, he declared. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: March 6, 1924 Joseph Smith did not, out of superior wisdom which he had, or because of his great learning, nor his deeper insight into the scriptures, excell the men of his generation or the generations that preceded him, in magnifying and in glorifying the mission and the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. He was qualified by heaven to accomplish the great work of setting before the world once again a true conception of the Father and of His Son, and of the Gospel which the Son introduced in the meridian of time. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: November 20, 1924 Elder Richards affirmed his belief in co-operation, protection of trade and safeguarding of the interests of citizens of the state. Asserting that divided effort accomplishes nothing, he urged devoted efforts to upbuild the Church and nation and to promote truth. President Seymour B. Young of the First Seven Presidents of Seventy indorsed the remarks of the former speaker and bore a strong testimony to the truthfulness of the Gospel. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: February 21, 1924 For be it known that Mormonism rests upon the testimony that God gives to His children of its truthfulness. If you will do the work you shall know whether these men speak of God or whether they speak of themselves. In humility and with all the earnestness of my soul I bear testi 11101) y that I know that the Angel Moroni came and revealed the Book of Mormon, that Joseph Smith was the instrument in the hands of God of establishing upon the earth God's Church, through which His Gospel may be preached to the world and I bear witness of its truthfulness in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: December 25, 1924 The closing month of the year naturally suggests to a Latter day Saint that the time is at hand for a final settlement of the year's tithing. According to the revealed law of God, this means that of our earnings for the year we should return to the Lord one-tenth for the building up of Zion and the advancement of His kingdom in the earth. It is not wise to leave the payment of the year's tithing until the end of the year, for it will often be found impossible to pay a full tithing at that time. Payment should be made from time to time as means are forthcoming. This renders it much easier to comply with the law and enables us to do it in a spirit more acceptable to the Lord. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: July 10, 1924 In that day when I came unto mine own, no man among you received me, and you were driven out. When I called again there was none of you to answer; yet my arm was not shortened at all that I could not redeem, neither my power to deliver. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: October 30, 1924 In his opening address, President Grant greeted the Saints and expressed joy at again meeting with them in general conference. He called attention to the radio set and said it had been esti mated that one million persons could hear the proceedings of this general conference, providing they listened in. He spoke of the wonder of the radio and said he rejoices in all great blessings. President Grant read from a revelation given through the Prophet Joseph Smith to the prophet's father, wherein it was said that a marvelous work and a wonder was about to be brought forth, admonishing the people to seek the Lord. This, said President Grant, he wished to impress upon the conference gathering. If there is any one special message, he said, that he desired to give the Church in conference assembled, it is Seek the Lord and serve Him with all your might, mind and strength. President Grant referred to a trip he made soon after the last general conference to various mission fields in the United States and Canada. He said he is pleased to report that the work is progressing, that the Elders and the lady missionaries are working faithfully and diligently. He said he played a game of golf near Kansas City on land once owned by General Doniphan, the courageous friend who once saved the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith by the stand he took against mob law. Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 86: July 3, 1924 I sometimes fear, my brethren and sisters, that in this mad rush for wealth, for power, for personal aggrandizement, this age of dishonesty in high places, disregard for law, and indifference to virtue, and religion, that we may be caught in the swirling flood and carried on to destruction unless we revert to those simple but fundamental doctrines of the Gospel, and put our trust in the Lord, renewing our covenants with Him, that His arm may sustain us. Weare living at the time seen by Lehi, the Nephite prophet, when, because of the darkness, which covered the earth, many people who had entered into the straight and narrow path which leads to eternal life, as we have done, lost their way and perished. But those who seized and held fast to the rod of iron, which is the word of God, found their way safely through the dark night until they reached the tree of life, and partook of its fruit, which is more desirable than all others.
