Excerpt from The Journal of English and Germanic Philology, 1916, Vol. 15 T. 4722: ir ist uud ist geuouc gewesen. It Should be noted that in both perfects with cc the present idea is very prominent, and the adverb has an indefinite meaning, at any time. One instance may be partly due to rime. At any rate, these two perfects among so many preterits for perfect can be of no great Significance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Journal of English and Germanic Philology, Vol. 10 And every one of the audience understood, from the sound of the banjo, what his words had been. The performer produced these tones by turning the keys and so shortening and lengthening the strings. If you tried the same thing on the piano, you would hardly succeed in making yourself understood, because you can not glide from one tone to the other on the piano. And that is the peculiarity of the intonations, that our voice does not rest on one tone a perceivable time, but glides or slurs in a continual portamento or springs up and down. Excerpt from The Journal of English and Germanic Philology, Vol. 14 AS a result of these continued labors Luther began the Psalm translation in a Spirit somewhat different from that in which he went at the other parts of the Bible. He knew the Psalms thor oughly; they had become part of his daily life. His knowledge of the languages gave him the means Of entering into a linguistic study of the various texts and versions. Much of the Psalter had been translated by him before, and much of it he knew by heart in Latin and in German. The result Of all this was a confidence which Job, for instance, did not instill. Coupled with this confidence was the determination to give his people a better version of the Psalter than the earlier ones had been. Excerpt from The Journal of English and Germanic Philology, Vol. 17: Founded by Gustaf E. Karsten The fact that the motive Of the avaricious relatives persistently recurs in documents separated from one another by centuries, proves how deep-rooted the tradition must have been. That the relatives who caused Siegfried's death became identical with Gudrun's brothers seems only natural after Siegfried had been connected with the Burgundian family through his marriage. Excerpt from The Journal of English and Germanic Philology, Vol. 18 Ghost's revelations from their knowledge. In order that nothing may interfere with his revenge, Hamlet swears them on his sword hilt to secrecy. Then an idea strikes him, and he acts upon it suddenly - why not feign madness as a cloak for vengeance? And once more he pledges the others not to betray him, should he think it wise to put an antic disposition on. The scenes at the beginning of Act II show that Hamlet is pur suing this policy. Even before his entrance upon the stage, it ap pears from the remarks of the king and Polonius that his behavior is giving them the most serious concern. When Hamlet himself appears, he is alternately violent and rational, obviously taking a bitter joy in bewildering the duller wits about him, and sailing as close to the wind as he may without self-betrayal. As yet he has done little or nothing to further his revenge, beyond assuming the mask of madness; and the soliloquy at the end of Act II shows him assailed with doubts of the genuineness of the spectral revelations on the battlements - the Ghost may have been the Devil, assuming his father's likeness to ensnare him to murder, and so gain his soul.
