A similar superstition still prevails in some parts of Italy, and in other places on the Continent. I mean, the custom of giving to infants, as their baptismal name, the name of the saint whose festival is the nearest to the birthday of the child; from which name, if it is capable of a fortunate or favour able translation, the good fortune or disposition of the child is inferred.
