This severely chronological arrangement of the historical chapters, although necessarily inelegant, will, it is hoped, when taken in conjunction with the accompanying bibliographical references, materially assist the politicians, economists, and future his torians in tracing the development, the progress, and the onward drift of Madagascar and the Malagasy.
