The Goddess of Love and the Angel of Death revolves around a nude female nightclub stripper, Selina, and a nude male art model, Owen. Conceived of as a modernized "Adam and Eve," gender-reversing Owen tempts Selina with a piece of plastic sculpture. A generation later, their daughter, Lisa, who had been adopted as a baby, learns of them from a psychology professor who had met them while researching pornography in which they peripherally participated. As the story unfolds, Lisa learns that her biological parents were also talented artists. The story itself is a love story of a young black woman, Selina, and an older white man, Owen. If their art and love may be the "good" of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, neo-Nazi racism and drug gang-banging may be the "evil." The underlying theme is a triumph of art and life over pornography. The story's complex ending may bring sorrow and meaning while gladdening the heart.

Softcover: This book was originally published in England in 1920. The recorder is the Rev. G. Vale Owen, vicar of Orford, Lancashire. The famous Arthur Conan Doyle, someone who had a great deal of interest in Life after Death, contributed an introduction to all five volumes. The messages contained in this book were also published in a daily newspaper by the owner Lord Northcliffe. As such they were widely read, and widely acclaimed. Rev. George Vale Owen was even asked to go down to London to deliver a sermon on these communications. There did not appear to be any significant theological objections from the Church of England to what was set out, and in fact it was accepted that these communications were genuine "inspirational writings", that the Rev. G. Vale Owen was genuine, and that the writings were of great value. It is curious therefor that they have slipped into relative obscurity only 100 years later, even though they were widely accepted within the Church of England and beyond.

In cultures throughout human history people have believed that some part of themselves continued to exist after they died. Part of that belief is that living can influence what happens to the dead in the afterlife, and the dead can return from the afterlife to affect the living. Death Gods: An Encyclopedia of the Rulers, Evil Spirits, and Geographies of the Dead describes the many ways the afterlife—especially that part of the afterlife commonly known as Hell—has been characterized in myths from around the world. The hundreds of entries provide readers with a guide to the afterlife as portrayed in these myths - its geography, its rulers, its inhabitants, how they got there, and what happens after their arrival. While the Devil is a prominent resident and ruler of the afterworld in many religions, especially Christianity, this book examines many other versions of Hell whether presided over by the Devil, Hades, or one of the many other rulers of the dead. Death Gods provides concise encyclopedic entries on all aspects of the mythology of the afterlife: The underworlds form the myths of cultures from across the globe—for example, Xibalba, the underworld of the Quiche Maya; Di Yu, the underground realm of the dead in Chinese mythology; the gods and demons of the afterlife—the Hindu god of death and justice Yama; Ahriman, the evil twin of the benevolent god Ahura Mazda in Zoroastrian mythology; Buso, the invisible ghouls who haunt graveyards and feed on human corpses in Philippine mythology. The volume includes an extensive bibliography of the most useful resources for understanding the mythology of death and the afterlife.
