It is not the purpose of this book to try to lift the veil from the future. It must be remembered, however, that no people is more deeply conservative and reverent of the past than the Germans, and that whatever the future may hold in store as the result of the present titanic conflict, the Germany of the future will be an organic growth out of the Germany of the present, and the deeds and struggles described in the following pages will form the basis of the new time.
