"The Darien Gap is a place of legend. The only break in the Pan-American highway, which runs from Alaska to the tip of South America, it is an almost impregnable strip of swamp, jungle and cloud forest between the vast landmasses of North and South America. Stories of abduction and murder there are rife and in recent years more people have successfully climbed Everest or trekked to the South Pole than have crossed the Darien Gap. In 2000, Tom Hart Dyke, a young botanist, set off to Central America with one thing on his mind- orchids. He knew that in order to find the rare and beautiful species he so fervently admired, he would have to visit some of the most inhospitable places on earth. Unbeknown to Tom, another young explorer, Paul Winder, was backpacking through the area at the same time. Though he sometimes worked freelance in the City of London, Paul was a fearless and intrepid traveller, happier scaling volcanoes than lounging on beaches. In every bar and cafe along his route, rumours abounded of the Darien Gap - and the more he heard, the greater became his desire to make the journey. Pure chance brought Paul and Tom together in northern Mexico; they formed an instant bond

As a little girl she created stories to go with the doll clothes she made; when she wasn't making mud pies in the garden. In Middle School she read storybooks to the children in the pediatric wing of Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC. Her imagination continued through her involvement in theater during high school, then college. She was inducted into Alpha Psi Omega/Delta Psi at Averett University. While there she wrote, produced, and directed a weekly radio show. When her children were little she was a docent and puppeteer at The Youth Museum in Cobb County, Georgia, where she enjoyed interacting with the children. Later she was a coordinator and teacher for Middle School Religious Education. She has earned certificates in creative writing and writing for children, and is a member of SCBWI. Her inspiration comes from seeing the joy and laughter of her four grandchildren. In addition to the Garden Adventure Series she is working on a romance novel of the 1890's. This is her first children's book. Kathleen Terry Guy started her career as a registered nurse, working in the pediatric area. The youngest of six children, Kathleen has had many memories of family events with eight nieces. Furthering her education in business, Kathleen acquired her Doctorate in Business Management. Currently she is consulting in business and teaching MBA courses at St Leo University. Her organizational skills are an asset in organizing book writing, behind the scene work with publishers and moving ideas to full publications. Kathleen publishes doctorate articles for professional conferences with a global presence annually. She resides in Alpharetta Georgia with her husband Mark, two golden retrievers and their calico cat. Her interests in children's books stem from growing up with five siblings and now surrounded by eight nieces. Member of the (SCBWI) Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators, where you will find her profile. The Garden Adventure Series is Kathleen's first published children's book.
