Download Sidelights on Christian Doctrine (Classic Reprint) Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Excerpt from Sidelights on Christian Doctrine The Studies in this Volume are based upon Addresses on Christian Doctrine given at various Conferences and Bible Schools in America. This may explain the semi-popular character of the exposition, and some peculiarities in the style, which it has not been thought necessary to remove. Perhaps the less formal nature of the Studies will adapt them better to the needs of those whom technical works on theology might repel. The treatment makes no pretence at exhaustiveness, but probably it will be found that few points of real importance in theological study are left untouched. The work may therefore serve as an introduction to more elaborate handbooks on the Christian doctrines. It may serve to show what, in substance, theology is, to create an interest in its questions, and to remove some misconceptions as to its nature, necessity, and scope. In some degree, it may even be a contribution to the right apprehension of the Christian truth itself. These are days in which theology is at a discount. The cry is loud for "reconstruction" of Christian doctrines; for re-statement in terms of living thought. This book has little to offer in the way of novelties. This clear and concise text helps readers grasp the doctrines of the Christian faith considered basic from the earliest days of Christianity. Ronald Heine, an internationally known expert on early Christian theology, developed this book from a course he teaches that has been refined through many years of classroom experience. Heine primarily uses the classical Christian doctrines of the Nicene Creed to guide students into the essentials of the faith. This broadly ecumenical work will interest students of church history or theology as well as adult Christian education classes in church settings. Sidebars identify major personalities and concepts, and each chapter concludes with discussion questions and suggestions for further reading.

Download The Christian Doctrine of God (Classic Reprint) Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Excerpt from The Christian Doctrine of God The work that was entrusted to me by the General Editors of the International Theological Library was simply the presentation of the conception of God that is characteristic of the Christian religion. I was not sent to search for God, but rather to report as well as I might what the Christian faith testifies concerning him. It has seemed to me that this single commission was enough for me to undertake, and I have attempted nothing more. No report of the literature of the subject will be found upon these pages, nor any quotation of other men's work, nor any controversy. It is the sole endeavour of the book to set forth the Christian doctrine of God for the present day: not the doctrine of the past, or of the future, but the thought of God that we may now entertain if we follow the leading of Jesus Christ the revealer. So far as I have the power, I have sought to be faithful both to the ancient light to the modern, and I have hoped that my presentation might bear reasonably well the tests of the present time. There are many ways of dealing with the vast and glorious theme, and certainly there must be room for a book that simply aims to show forth doctrine as Christian faith may receive it now. I have written in the full conviction that the light which Jesus Christ gives us upon God is the true light, and that God is such a Being as he inspires us to love and trust. Download The Elements of Christian Doctrine Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Excerpt from The Elements of Christian Doctrine This book is not a theological manual; it treats of those fundamental truths which underlie theology, as the facts of nature underlie the natural sciences. Neither again is it a manual of dogma; it is rather an attempt to set out the matter of which dogma, or the settled judgment of Christian thought, is the formal expression. At the same time neither dogma nor theology is ignored. To treat of Christian Doctrine without regard to theology or dogma would seem to the writer as foolish as to treat of agriculture with a studied ignorance of chemistry and of human experience. Download The Faith of the Gospel Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Excerpt from The Faith of the Gospel: A Manual of Christian Doctrine This history of the origin of the present book will explain its form. While attempting to go with fair thoroughness into the various questions raised, it does not profess to deal with them exhaustively, as a book written for the learned would. It assumes little in the reader besides an average English education and a devout mind. Recondite theological language is avoided. Terms are explained as they occur. It is hoped, therefore, that'the book may prove useful, not only to Teachers of the Divine Mysteries at the beginning of their studies, but to many private Chris tians also, who wish to have an intelligent grasp of their faith.
