In volume one of "The Uncertain Legacy" members of a family who held extremely rigid and diametrically opposed views about the value of religion and science met to discuss a financial and philosophical legacy their father wanted to pass on to them. Tree-ring dating (dendrochronology) is a method of scientific dating based on the analysis of tree-ring growth patterns. As author James Speer notes, trees are remarkable bioindicators.
