Some enter this life with all kinds of assets. Some enter life and, if they are lucky, come to realize that they are going to have to "make it" on their own. The dwarf had to find his own way in this world. The fact that he "made it" is a lesson for all children and the parents or guardians. "be strong in the face of adversity and "keep your eye on the prize." This short story, "The dwarf and the GREEN GIANT" should be read by children along with their guardians. CAPLAN

SOME FOURTEEN BILLION YEARS AGO SOMETHING WONDERFUL HAPPENED, EXACTLY WHERE WHO KNOWS?,SOME SAY THAT IT WAS EVERYWHERE AT ONCE,BUT NEVERTHELESS A MIRACULOUS EVENT WAS TAKING PLACE. IT WAS MINUTE IN SIZE, BUT IMMENSE IN ENERGY! IT WAS THE BIG BANG, OR AND GOD SAID,...LET THERE BE...AND THE UNIVERSE WAS BORN, AND IT CONTINUED TO GROW, AND IT HAS GROWN EXPIDENTIALLY EVER SINCE, AND NOW IT HAS BECOME A HOME FOR US, AND THE MIRIAD OF STARS, AND GALAXIES ARE BEING PREPARED EVEN AS I AM WRITING THIS,...FOR MANKIND ! AND IT CONTINUES TO GROW, BUT SOME PEOPLE SAY THAT IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT, BUT I SAY THAT IT WAS BY DESIGN, AND THAT DESIGN WAS FOR OUR BENEFIT. AND THAT THERE IS A SUPREME BEING, A CREATOR, WHO IS FAR ABOVE AND BEYOND OUR CONCEPTION OF SPACE AND TIME, AND THAT HE CARES ABOUT US WITHOUT LIMIT, SO MUCH SO THAT HE BUILT AN ENTIRE UNIVERSE TO ACCOMODATE MANKIND. AND THAT HE HAS A PLAN FOR US THAT WILL BE SO SPECTACULAR THAT WE COULDNT POSSIBLY IMAGINE OF IT EVEN IN OUR WILDEST DREAMS. AND EVEN THOUGH WE FELL HE NEVER GAVE UP ON US, AND THAT HE CAME DOWN TO THE EARTH TO REDEEM US FROM SIN AND DEATH IN ORDER THAT WE WOULD ONCE AGAIN BE AT THE CENTRE OF THAT PLAN, THE WHICH IS ON GOING BUT NOT UNTIL THE EARTH HAS BEEN CLEANSED WILL IT BE INITIATED AND CONTINUED IN EARNEST. AND THIS BOOK DESCRIBES THOSE PLANS . BUT THE CUNNING AND CRAFTY NATURE OF LUCIFER, AND OF THE FALLEN ANGELS TRIES TO THWART THOSE PLANS.

"Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' is a great poem that gives some powerful twists to traditional materials. The story combines two ancient elements, beheading and seduction, in a fresh and remarkable way; it takes familiar medieval themes -- the feast, the seasons, the arming of the warrior, the hunt -- and gives them a new glamor. The 'intertextuality' of this brilliant poem can be most clearly seen through Elisabeth Brewer's modern English versions of other related medieval writings. Her book is a delightful and unusual small anthology of medieval literature; but its greatest success lies in providing a context for a fuller understanding of "Sir Gawain" through its presentation of extracts and poems (including translations from Celtic and French originals) illustrating the tradition in which the Gawain-poet wrote, underscoring his own great achievement. -- From publisher's description.

This study arose out ofthe old question of what actually determines vegetation structure and distributions. Is climate the overriding control, as one would suppose from reading the more geographically oriented literature? Or is climate only incidental, as suggested by more site and/ or taxon-oriented writers? The question might be phrased more realistically: How much does climate control vegetation processes, structures, and distributions? It seemed to me, as an ambitious doctoral student, that one way to attempt an answer might be to try to predict world vegetation from climate alone and then compare the predicted results with actual vegetation patterns. If climatic data were sufficient to reproduce the world's actual vegetation patterns, then one could conclude that climate is the main control. This book represents an expanded, second-generation version of that original thesis. It presents world-scale vegetation and ecoclimatic models and a methodology for applying such models to predict vegetation and for evaluating model results. This approach also provides a means of geographical simulation of vegetation patterns and changes, which represent necessary data inputs in other fields such as atmospheric chemistry and biogeochemical cycling. It has been fairly well accepted that climatic and other environmental conditions are associated with the evolution of particular aspects of plant form (convergent evolution). The particular configurations of plant size, photosynthetic surface area and structure (e. g. sclerophylly, stomatal 'resistance'), and their seasonal variations represent what one can recognize fairly readily as distinct growth forms.
