'The nature of truth is to be free from contradictions. We approach nearer and nearer truth as we fi nd less and less contradictions. The only thing which is so free is non-duality'...'This may be achieved at fi rst, as the Upanishads say, in lightning fl ashes, in fl eeting momentary glimpses, but later this must be established into permanency. You should stabilize them through self-recollectedness to be done throughout the day, and through the constant reminder that the world is not separate from yourself. It is not enough to grasp the intellectual truth of non-duality'...'As the man of realisation knows the world to be an idea, a mental construct, the sense of unifi cation and love to all mankind is simultaneously its materialization, for he knows no difference between idea and matter. Hence too he wishes all beings to be happy, loves even his enemy, wishes him no harm, for he knows the truth of universal self-identifi cation. Thus to the extent a man realises the truth, he can do good and no more'...'Any kind of difference means contradiction. Nothing whatsoever other than the Atman exists. If you think there is another entity, whether man or God, there is no truth. This is the teaching since time immemorial of those who have inquired into truth.' - V. SUBRAHMANYA IYER

Have you ever wondered if humanity made a grand mistake somewhere in the past, as if we really were living in an Eden, veered off course, and ever since we've been running steadily towards a chasm? Maybe there was a natural pattern we fit into and we lost our way. Now we are standing on the precipice of this chasm and most people cannot see it because it has been hidden by our modern highly technological society. Maybe you think human civilization has grown quite well, and we just need to make some corrections. The "horrible" state of affairs in the world today is just another media concoction. Looking at history from an objective viewpoint, we as a race have created a much better world. The path we are on is not mistaken, we just have not yet perfected the machinery. Is one of these views right, and the other wrong; where should we look for an answer? The most sensible starting point should be with the discipline which has repeatedly proven itself, science. It would take a Luddite, or some similar dimwit, to try and make an argument that science has not been successful. But it is also apparent to many of us that science is full of holes with no emotion inside. It is cold, sterile, and devoid of Life, as it must be. If science is not able to give us the answers we seek, the answers we need, then we must look elsewhere. To go where science dare not go, we must look to the religions of the world. Religion nowadays takes a bad rap from many modern thinkers. But if religions are so silly, then why are they still here? The problem with trying to use religions to fill the holes in science is not irrationality, but a profound lack of understanding what their founders were trying to relate to the rest of us. Science and religion mix within most of us in an uneasy fashion. Every sentient being has a religion, a system of beliefs, and we know that science works. It's like we all learn to develop an uneasy truce between what we believe and what we know works. The problem with this mix is we do not know how to balance it. Thus some people become overly Rational, and tend to think religious people are stupid or crazy. While others reject rationality and have learned to fear and oppose a civilization based on reason with no Soul. Duality is the first in a series of four books which will show that these conflicting views are right ... and wrong. Reality is a pattern and a machine. From a basis of a belief in one Reality, dispensing with the notion that it is hidden and unmasking Time as the veil, allows the most important question to be answered--what is the Truth in Reality?

As a foundation for the spiritual conversation we will have later in the Language of Truth series, Basic Duality presents a new philosophy of physics. It describes the bridge between material and immaterial aspects of energy, the nature of "yin" and "yang" or the masculine and feminine forces, and the basic "zero" and "one" relationship that underlies all things in the physical universe. A highly complex topic presented through the lens of logic and with a great economy of words, this work was written with the layperson in mind.
