This work describes the whole literary and scholarly output of the whole of the Irish middle ages (4th-17th centuries), in Latin and in the vernaculars, and tries to do so as comprehensively as possible, esp. in biblica, liturgica, computistica, hagiographica and grammatica. The book focuses both on individual manuscripts and on textual transmission. In the case of manuscripts, it gives succinctly information and a detailed bibliography, always chronologically arranged. In the case of texts, it lists the manuscripts in which they occur or, on occasion, where such a list can be found, together with a bibliography of relevant publications. In the case of both, there are running cross-references to the standard works of reference. Concordantiae, at the end of the volume, reinforce that. The 'Index Manuscriptorum' is the most comprehensive attempt so far to list the MSS written by the medieval Irish or transmitting their texts. It should allow new work on the fortuna of Irish MSS and texts and their influence throughout the middle ages. The chapters on MSS and texts written in Irish provide the treatment of several areas: annals, genealogies, vernacular law, early poetry, bardic poetry and metrics.--See publisher's website.

Ritualists, occultists, and collectors will love this complete, four-color edition of the Mysteries of Magic (also known as The Clavis) by Ebenezer Sibley and Rabbi Solomon. The Clavis was created during the high point of calligraphic Victorian grimoires, and it became one of the most important grimoires in circulation during the 19th century. This attractive hardcover edition includes commentary and transcription by Dr. Stephen Skinner and Daniel Clark, and it also features content derived from Frederick Hockley's manuscripts. This book is a very significant magical text with details of practice that are not found in other grimoires, and this edition--with its more than 200 pages of additional commentary and explanation--will be a treasure to those who have a passion for the historical underpinnings of occult magic. Clavis Goêtica presents a reference to the 16th-century tale of the first white magician, Johannes Beer, who is brought back from the dead in this book. And yet, the title as well as the essays united in this volume hold a deeper meaning: this key to the underworld is a living being, a spirit in its own right, that only comes to life when magic is performed as an act of co-creation of equals. In this book Frater Acher and José Gabriel Alegría Sabogal have joined creative forces to break through the perceived dichotomy of left-hand and right-hand paths of practical magic. Through careful historical research, concrete ritual analysis and their own experience as practitioners they show a path towards a more balanced way of approaching magic in the underworld, one where the chthonic spirits are invited to unlock what is theirs, while equally the magician is held accountable to contribute what is uniquely human about them. Only when both sides contribute fairly to the magical (p)act, can the key be turned that is the clavis goêtica.
