After witnessing his father's murder as a child, Paul Ashton grows up as an IRA man with a personal axe to grind. Paul returns to England to meet up with his cousin, Jimmy, who is facilitating the running of arms through a Russian connection. These are then buried at churches in a series of 'funerals' aided by ex-IRA man who has joined the priesthood, to be resurrected on the eve of the centenary of the Easter Rising. Paul, however, is distracted from the task in hand by his attraction to the beautiful Isabella, daughter of his Russian contact, and his penchant for hard drugs - not to mention a spell in a mental institution. Paul uses Jimmy's contacts, not knowing that they are secret Pagans and have a sinister motive in assisting the Irish - and that they want rid of Paul ...
