Excerpt from The Book Rarities in the University of Cambridge: Illustrated by Original It is also probable that some few books have been passed over, whose rarity would have entitled them to a place in the volume; but more are there which have been left undescribed from a fear of extending it to too large a size, Aldines, for instance, in the Libraries at St John's and Trinity, which were purposely excluded to make room for better company. It was found that a notice, or even a slight catalogue, of the most remarkable Manuscripts would have been too extensive a field to have entered upon, and (unless some have slipped by chance into the press along with other matter) they have been passed over. As they have already found a place in the Catalogus Manuscriptorum Angliae, their notice here would have been only a repetition of their titles with a slight enlargement That the greatest part of the matter of the work was written some time since will account to the reader for observations which have been made concerning the Library of King's College, and that of the late learned and estimable Earl of Guilford; The one then was placed in the Chapel Cloisters, but has since been removed to the New Library.
