Excerpt from The Baptist Magazine for 1821, Vol. 13 This sentiment appears so ta tional, that the very heathens have professed their belief of it. They justly concluded, since a man might search through crea tion, and gain all that the world could possibly confer on him, and yet find something that it could not give essential to his happi ness, that he was made for a no bler world than the present, and that his nature was immortal. Excerpt from The Baptist Magazine for 1830, Vol. 22 While we have occasionally, and we trust to a sufficient extent, admitted the illustration of subjects of comparatively minor import lnce, but nevertheless worthy of some notice and discussion, yet have we been most solicitous of introducing the more essential doc nines of Christianity, and the more weighty matters connected with experimental religion. It has been our aim, and not we hope an un successful one, both to inform the judgment and improve the heart; and this will continue to be our constant efi'ort. We have endeavoured, also to guard against those extremes in theology to which many good men are prone, especially the error of urging on man his obligations to duty, in such a manner as to compromise the essential doctrine of our dependence on supernatural aid. While acknowledging the'latt'e'r in general terms, they have neutralized, if not nullified their own concessions, by an indiscreet application of the appeals of Scripture. How many haze split upon this rock, and virtually said touhumnn reason, on art my guide, and to human strength; Thou: art my0 iv preface. Excerpt from The Free Will Baptist, Vol. 63: A National Weekly Religious Magazine; January 7, 1948 Jesus Christ is set forth as the Star of Bethlehem, but the wise men said he had a star, for, said they, We have seen his Star in the east. How did they know he had a Star? They had never seen it in prophecy. How did they know he was born King of the Jews and not a Gentile Prince? It had been predicted from the days of Seth, the son of Adam, on down thru Abraham's day, to the very day in which Jesus Christ was born, that the birth of this Holy child, who was destined to bruise the Serpent's head, would be preceded by a bright star that would shine very bright, out of the constellation of Coma, the first Decan of Virgo, one of the major signs of the Zodiac. Excerpt from The Primitive Baptist, Vol. 24: March 10, 1860 Having professed a hope in Christ at an early age, he joined the Baptist Church at Mt. Pisgah, Bibb Cc., Ga, at the age of 18 years, and was baptized by Elu. John Blackstone. A sense of his indebtedness to God, and of humble gratitude to his Redeemer, rendered him eminently active and zealous in promoting, to the utmost of his power, the glory of God and the salvation of immortal souls. Accordingly he com menced his labors in the ministry in the year A. D. 1832, in which capacity he labored faithfully and successfully until within a few months of his death, when he became so much troubled with a disease of his threat that he was unaa ble to preach. Thus for 28 years he faithfully defended the gospel of Christ and pointed poor erring man to the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. His labors of love, his earnest appeals, his fervent prayers, his pious instruction and his uniform department, will be remembered by his companion and children as well as by his numerous friends, with a. Mournf'ul pleasure. As a minister of the gospel. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
