James Edward Talmage (1862-1933) was an Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a noted scientist, receiving his Ph.D. in 1896, and serving as the President of the University of Deseret from 1894 to 1897. Many of Talmage's writings have been considered classics among the Latter-day Saints for over a century. Among his most important are The Great Apostasy and Jesus the Christ. The Articles of Faith originated as lecture notes for a course in the LDS faith. These lectures proved so popular that Talmage was asked to publish them in book form. They have remained in print ever since. The Deseret Alphabet Classics series provides Deseret Alphabet editions of some of the great works of English literature and LDS theology. Our goal is to encourage the use of the Deseret Alphabet by making worthwhile reading material widely available.

A biography of Mormon convert George D. Watt, whose contributions to Mormon literature include the creation of the Deseret Alphabet and his efficient note taking that allowed him to take down the sermons of Young and other church leaders and publish them in the "Journal of Discourses," an indispensable historical record. Despite his accomplishments, because of his potential, George Watt's story is at heart a tragedy. His breach with Brigham Young resulted in social isolation, poverty, and rejection by friends and associates.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • From the author of Into the Wild and Into Thin Air, this extraordinary work of investigative journalism takes readers inside America’s isolated Mormon Fundamentalist communities. • Now an acclaimed FX limited series streaming on HULU. “Fantastic.... Right up there with In Cold Blood and The Executioner’s Song.” —San Francisco Chronicle Defying both civil authorities and the Mormon establishment in Salt Lake City, the renegade leaders of these Taliban-like theocracies are zealots who answer only to God; some 40,000 people still practice polygamy in these communities. At the core of Krakauer’s book are brothers Ron and Dan Lafferty, who insist they received a commandment from God to kill a blameless woman and her baby girl. Beginning with a meticulously researched account of this appalling double murder, Krakauer constructs a multi-layered, bone-chilling narrative of messianic delusion, polygamy, savage violence, and unyielding faith. Along the way he uncovers a shadowy offshoot of America’s fastest growing religion, and raises provocative questions about the nature of religious belief.
