No special attention has been given to the particular action or movements of individual army corps, divisions, brigades, or other military subdivisions, as such; the aim has been to treat the respective armies with their com manders, as distinct units, and from their own reports and correspondence, (much of which was secret and never heretofore published, ) much light is thrown on acts.
