Excerpt from Glacial Drift of the Shelbyville Moraine at Shelbyville, Illinois The Shelbyville Moraine, at Shelbyville, is a prominent topographic fea ture which rises to an elevation of 700 feet, about 100 feet higher than the Illi noian drift plain immediately to the south. The Wisconsinan drift in the Shelby ville Dam Section overlies the Sangamon Soil, which is in accretion - gley and Illi noian drift. The top of the soil lies at an elevation of 595 feet, the same eleva tion as the Illinoian drift plain, and therefore the moraine is interpreted as being entirely Wisconsinan in age.
