Excerpt from The Angler's Guide Book: And Tourist's Gazetteer of the Fishing Waters of the United States and Canada, 1886 The yearly changes in the fish laws of the States and Territories, and the variable conditions, from season to season, of the fishing waters, create the necessity of an annual revision and reissue of The Anglers' Guide Book. In the present edition (1886) nearly one thousand waters have been added to those described in 1885, making an aggregate of over eight thousand designated points where angling can be had in American waters. In repeating the urgent call upon the anglers of the country to aid me in systemizing and simplifying the popular names of fishes, I would further state that any one desirous of assisting in this good work, upon applying to me by letter or otherwise, will be furnished free of charge with preservative powder, through the use of which specimen fish for identification and classification can be forwarded by mail.
