There is nothing so much valued by this people as a book; there is nothing they take so much pleasure in as in reading; there is nothing they are more thankful for than a lesson; all their leisure time is devoted to their books; however, their heads may be occupied, their books have the first place in their hearts wherever they go they carry their books with them, and if you see them in parties about their houses, or in their fields, it will almost invariably be found that they are employed in reading, or in teaching one another to read.
