Car, chose incomprehensible, alors qu'a Londres on appeciait a leur reelle valeur nos Chardin, nos Greuze, nos Boucher, nos Watteau, a Paris on connaissait a peine de reputation les Hogarth, les Turner, les Thomas Lawrence, et pas meme de nom les Raeburn, les Romney, les Etty et cent autres peintres superieurs dont nos musees ne possedent pas le moindre echantillon. C'est pourtant la le terrain sur lequel les nations pourront toujours s'entendre. Quant a moi, qui n'ai pour les guerres coloniales que la plus entiere repulsion, j'ai toujours prefere de beaucoup la conquete d'un beau tableau de Reynolds a celle d'un territoire au Soudan.
