In Sweating in the Land of Smiles, I unveil living in Thailand during COVID-19, the year of radical change. We'll discover the Bangkok way of doing things through my observations and conversations with some Thai locals. You'll get an honest account of my experience living in a city with ten and a half million people. In this book, I don't advocate for people to pack their bags and leave everything behind. The grass isn't always greener. We must endure hardships different from the ones back home. Keep in mind that the chapters aren't research-based or a how-to manual to get by. I don't know the nuts and bolts about Thai culture or the Bangkok lifestyle either. If you're open-minded and want to swim in a book that's not the usual stuff in Amazon's library, then this read might do the job. You'll at least learn some interesting things about Bangkok and Thai culture that you won't get in textbooks. Who doesn't like to stimulate their mind and broaden their horizons?

Eight billion dollars? worth of Inca gold and silver are rumored to be hidden in an unmapped region of the Andes. This is the captivating story of that fabled treasure and the centuries-old spell it has cast on many, including a young American student, Peter Lourie. While completing anthropological fieldwork in Ecuador, Lourie heard the legend of Atahualpa?s ransom. The Incas gathered seven-hundred tons of gold (Sweat of the Sun) and silver (Tears of the Moon) to purchase the freedom of their king, Atahualpa, from Pizarro and his conquistadors. After the Inca ruler?s murder, the treasure vanished into the forsaken Llanganati range of the Andes. Lourie abandoned his graduate school ambitions to search for Atahualpa?s ransom. His quest for clues and his journey into the heart of the Andes is an absorbing and exciting detective story. Lourie?s account is also unforgettable for its revelations about the lives and characters of seasoned treasure hunters, the obsessed few lured by the siren song of legendary gold.

While I cannot confirm that supposition, I can report that I am never at a loss for an opinion on any topic. Some of the topics include: gun control in the USA, Naturopathic medicine, modern miracles, salt consumption, eating bacon, bicycle fishermen, chain gangs and the war on drugs. This section includes reactions and reflections on topics such as the Bamboo Train, Chiang Mai, the killing fields of Cambodia, the flying chicken restaurant, 7-11 stores, washing elephants and a host of other bizarre experiences.
