Simeon Swartz (1832-1910) was the eldest son of George Swartz (b.1807) and Mary Beery (1812-1875) of Fairfield County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Abraham and Catherine Beery. Simeon was married in 1856, to Sarah Kring (1837-1911) of Franklin County, Ohio. She was the daughter of Conrad Kring (1800-1887) (he was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania) and Catherine Seidner (1817-1884) of Columbia County, Ohio. Simeon and Sarah raised eight children. Their youngest son, Orvo Merrill Swartz (b.1878) was born in Farmer Twp., Rice County, Kansas and was the author of this history. Simeon served as an Ohio and Kansas minister. Several generations of ancestors and descendants are given. Descendants live in Kansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, California and elsewhere.

Adolph Schwartz, a jew, was born in 1866 at Stropko, an Austrian- Hungarian village (later in Czechoslovakia), He immigrated to United States in 1833, stayed a short while at New York, then Cincinnati, San Francisco, San Diego, and Juárez, Mexico. At Juárez, he went into business with Simon Picard. He moved to El Paso, Texas, in 1900, where he opened a dry goods store, which became the Popular Store chain; and went into real estate. He brought relatives from Europe to help in running the business. He and his wife, Fanny Amstater, had three children. He died in 1941 while working at his store and was succeeded in business by his nephew, Maurice Schwartz. Includes some information about his family and related families.
