Sunshine and Rays of Hope By: James Benedict The United States of America was formed by the courageous immigrants of yesterday, whose culture, hard work, and determination helped to shape the country it is today. Their spirit continues to inspire the future and push the country toward a strong tomorrow. In 1800s, where our story begins, there is still a continual influx of immigrants to North American from Europe. Many seek to find new lives in the United States and Canada. However, the move is not easy for many families. Instead, life throws many challenges in their path, forcing them to continually persevere and overcome even the greatest obstacles. Determined to succeed, they fight through tears and sweat and are guided by three core values to make North America their home: reverence for God, respect for life, and honor to do what is right.

"This book is about me and the adversity that he has beset me in this community due to my diagnosed mental illness and my advocacy for the mentally ill. Many of the poems come from life experiences in the past and absorb the reality of death. There were days when no one encouraged me, many ignored me, and others talked about me. This weaved in and out of the poetry when I felt this pain and wrote it out in my poetry. There are also poems relating to nature that revive my mind and inspires me to continue on. America is in some of my poems and how I feel that a nation has come so far but up at a standstill now. I listen to the news everyday because when I graduated in 1963, that was what we were told to do- keep up with the news because the world would get smaller and my poetry reflects what is going on in the world today. This book is a combination of adversity, nature, death, and world conflict. And I think all can relate to my book in diverse ways.

Micah Cooper, an EMT in New York City, was no stranger to thinking fast and acting faster. His life was a continuous loop of spontaneous decisions. Everything was a matter of life or death in his line of work. He lived for the thrill, and loved the ability to help those in need. Being the son of a well renowned surgeon, Micah was well educated in the life of a medical professional. He had seen everything, or at least he thought he had. But when the planes crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, Micah realized he hadn't seen it all. In a single moment, he lost his ability to think. Trapped inside the south tower was his wife, Hope.Hope was Micah's world, his sunshine, and when the towers collapsed, so did his heart. He watched, along with the world, as the heart of America went down in dust and flames. Through the chaos and devastation, Micah only had one mission, to find Hope.By his side, through the madness, was his trusted partner and friend, Zachary Pearce. Together, they raced against time and destruction to save Hope. In the midst of tragedy, discouraged that all might be lost, Micah holds on to a ray of hope that his wife will be found.
