I had an incredible moment while I was living in my home country, and I lived, for a while, with my parents and grandparents in a suburb. I had some people in the family travel to a new country, and I used to play with young friends in my town and went to school from kindergarten to high school. I had extraordinary intelligence as a part of my talents, and my friends and I had a team of soccer players. I was in the choir at a church in the city. I had intimate relationships when I was a teenager, and I had some people pass away in my family. I was a Latino practice dancer at a club in the city, and I went to another high school in the city of my country. I had my life instantly changed when I had the opportunity to come to a new country to live a new life with my parents.

The author has always remembered an incident that occurred during on of the many artillery swing operations. These operations involved two guns in fire support of Special Forces approximately 100 Montagnard positioned along the Cambodian border. The normal artillery battery comprised of six guns positioned in a group to produce overlapping explosive power. However, during these operations, only two guns would be sent out as fire support. The guns and crew along with the Special Forces Cadre would helicoptered out and dropped on a hill (Landing Zone) LZ and remain in place for weeks or months depending upon the situation. The incidences that most haunted the author occurred during the Siege of Special Forces Camp Bu Prang along the Cambodian border. It was these incidents that kept the author always wondering what the meaning of the situation, and how that applied in his life. The culmination to this quest for the meaning happened forty years after the events of that time and inspired the author to write down his experiences and the epiphany about that meaning. The book is a reflection on the author’s experiences with the realization that God has always been with him throughout his life.

In his revealing and frank autobiography, David G. Atwood, II takes us into a world of government corruption, back-stabbing politicians and an all too familiar tour of the criminal justice system. Persecuted by a corrupt sheriff's department for exposing a cabal of local corruption that reached into the upper echelon of international politics; prosecuted and sent to federal prison for a crime he didn't commit; and discriminated against for being gay, David leads us on a journey through the life of a prisoner that only an insider could tell and captivates us with a story of courage that will inspire everyone who reads it. Whether revealing the drug connections that for years have padded the pockets of the local cops and exposing how government-sanctioned drug deals in Vicksburg, Mississippi helped illegally fund the Nicaraguan Contras in the 1980's, David leaves no hole's barred as he takes aim at those who would misuse their political power for personal gain.

Using Scripture and personal narrative, Courageously Expecting empathizes with and empowers women to face a pregnancy after loss with faith and courage, despite inevitable feelings of grief and fear that accompany life after losing a baby. Pregnancy is widely regarded as the most joyful time in a woman's life, but for the mother who has experienced pregnancy loss, a subsequent pregnancy can feel like she's holding her breath and hoping for what she can't control. In Courageously Expecting, Jenny Albers meets women in this difficult season as someone who has also experienced the worst and cautiously hoped for the best. Through the telling of her own story, Scripture, and heartfelt prayer, she encourages readers to cling to faith in the face of fear and guides them to cultivate hope when doubt weighs heavy; realize that the past does not dictate the present or the future and that God creates a way in the wilderness of grief and loss; flip the script on the what-if, worst-case-scenario narrative in their minds and learn to take their thoughts captive; and find the courage to humble themselves and ask for and accept help from others. Regardless of where readers are on their pregnancy after loss journey, Courageously Expecting is a companion to help them through the days when fear overshadows hope.
