This annual SUSY conference has become the world's largest international meeting devolted to new ideas in high energy physics. The main subject of the conference is theoretical and phenomenological aspects of supersymmetric theories, and dark matter and dark energy, and other comological connections. New, interesting results from various experimental groups are increasingly presented at the conference as well. With roughly 200 plenary and parallel presentations, SUSY08 will likely deliver energy and enthusiasm of both theorists and experimentalists who are searching the frontier of high energy physics.

An overview of recent experimental searches for SUSY particles is presented. These searches are based on data collected by the CDF and the D0 experiments operating at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton collider with {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. The review focuses on searches for squarks and gluinos in final states with missing transverse energy and jets. Emphasis will be given to the search for the gluino decaying into a sbottom and b quark with each sbottom decaying into a b quark and a neutralino. This scenario yields events containing 4 b-jets and missing transverse energy.

The authors present the first search for heavy, long-lived particles that decay to photons at a hadron collider. They use a sample of [gamma] + jet + missing transverse energy events in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV taken with the CDF II detector. Candidate events are selected based on the arrival time of the photon at the detector. Using an integrated luminosity of 570 pb−1 of collision data, they observe 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3 ± 0.7 events. While the search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, they set cross section limits in a supersymmetric model with {tilde {chi}}1° → [gamma]{tilde G} and place the world-best 95% C.L. lower limit on the {tilde {chi}}1° mass of 101 GeV/c2 at [tau]{sub {tilde {chi}}1°} = 5 ns.

Current results of searches for Supersymmetry from the CDF and D0 collaborations are summarized. Analyses include searches in jets and missing E{sub t}, leptons and missing E{sub t}, and searches for charged and neutral Higgs particles. The CDF ee[gamma][gamma]E {sub t} event and related analyses are presented.

In this Letter we report on a search for long-lived particles that decay into final states with two electrons or photons. Such long-lived particles arise in a variety of theoretical models, like hidden valleys and supersymmetry with gauge-mediated breaking. By precisely reconstructing the direction of the electromagnetic shower we are able to probe much longer lifetimes than previously explored. We see no evidence of the existence of such long-lived particles and interpret this search as a quasi model-independent limit on their production cross section, as well as a limit on a long-lived fourth generation quark.

We have searched supersymmetry (SUSY) using trilepton events in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), trilepton events are expected from chargino-neutralino ({tilde {chi}}1{sup {plus_minus}}{tilde {chi}}2{sup o}) pair production, with subsequent decay into leptons. In all possible combinations of electron and muon channels in 19 pb−1data, we observe no events which pass our trilepton selection criteria. Assuming the GUT hypothesis within the framework of the MSSM, our preliminary analysis excludes M({tilde {chi}}1{sup {plus_minus}}{tilde {chi}}2{sup o})

The authors present the results of the first hadron collider search for heavy, long-lived neutralinos that decay via {tilde {chi}}1° → [gamma]{tilde G} in gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. Using an integrated luminosity of 570 ± 34 pb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV, they select [gamma]+jet+missing transverse energy candidate events based on the arrival time of a high-energy photon at the electromagnetic calorimeter as measured with a timing system that was recently installed on the CDF II detector. They find 2 events, consistent with the background estimate of 1.3 ± 0.7 events. While the search strategy does not rely on model-specific dynamics, they set cross section limits and place the world-best 95% C.L. lower limit on the {tilde {chi}}1° mass of 101 GeV/c2 at [tau]{sub {tilde {chi}}1°} = 5 ns.

In an epoch when particle physics is awaiting a major step forward, the Large Hydron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Geneva will soon be operational. It will collide a beam of high energy protons with another similar beam circulation in the same 27 km tunnel but in the opposite direction, resulting in the production of many elementary particles some never created in the laboratory before. It is widely expected that the LHC will discover the Higgs boson, the particle which supposedly lends masses to all other fundamental particles. In addition, the question as to whether there is some new law of physics at such high energy is likely to be answered through this experiment. The present volume contains a collection of articles written by international experts, both theoreticians and experimentalists, from India and abroad, which aims to acquaint a non-specialist with some basic issues related to the LHC. At the same time, it is expected to be a useful, rudimentary companion of introductory exposition and technical expertise alike, and it is hoped to become unique in its kind. The fact that there is substantial Indian involvement in the entire LHC endeavour, at all levels including fabrication, physics analysis procedures as well as theoretical studies, is also amply brought out in the collection.
