Acland looks back at the strange history of subliminal seduction: a theory first propagated in the late 1950s by marketing researcher James Vicary, who claimed that movie audiences bought more refreshments if advertising messages too quick to be noticed were inserted into movies. The study was soon proven false, but that hasnt kept the concept from having a long afterlife in the popular imagination.

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Psychology - Cognition, grade: 1.0, University of Cologne (DP Psychologie), language: English, abstract: In this bachelor thesis, based on the findings by Karremans, Stroebe, and Claus (2006), the effectiveness of subliminal cues on choice behavior was transposed to the online search environment. To give a clear answer for this matter, possibilities but also dangers of online information seeking and subliminal perception have been investigated. Subliminal stimuli seem to have great potential for this matter since there is much similarity (Strahan, Spencer, and Zanna, 2002) between the factors that make subliminal stimuli effective and the online search environment (i.e. need for information and goal relevance). An online survey was conducted trying to investigate that goal priming effects subsequent evaluation, but only when certain conditions interact with persons’ attitudes. Half of 98 participants were subliminally primed with the Google ad-icon “Anzeige” and subsequently evaluate on online advertisement and search engines. The results indicated that priming positively influences the evaluation on online advertisement and search engines, regardless of participants’ attitudes towards online search.

This landmark volume brings together the work of the world's leading researchers in sublimated perception. This compilation marks a fundamental shift in the current study of subliminal effects: No longer in question is the notion that perception without awareness occurs. Now, the emphasis is on elucidating the parameters of subliminal effects and understanding the conditions under which stimuli perceived without awareness significantly influence affect, cognition, and behavior. PERCEPTION WITHOUT AWARENESS firmly establishes subliminal perception within the mainstream of psychological science. Well represented here are the two main research branches that have emerged: One directly investigates the nature of subliminal effects; the other uses subliminal techniques as tools for investigating psychological phenomena such as hypnosis, dreaming, repression, social judgment and inference, psychopathology, and symptom formation. Broadly grouped into three main sections, the contributed chapters explore * The cognitive perspective--including implicit memory and implicit perception, the measurement of unconscious perceptual processes, and methods for revealing unconscious processes * The clinical perspective--exploring the cognitive and dynamic aspects of subliminal perception, memory, and consciousness; direct recovery of subliminal stimuli; and validation of subliminal psychodynamic activation * The social perspective--discussing subliminal mere-exposure effects, affect and social perception, and the role of subliminality in social psychology Timely and thought-provoking, PERCEPTION WITHOUT AWARENESS is sure to be of enormous interest to all psychoanalytic clinicians and scholars, as well as cognitive, clinical, and social psychologists whose work touches upon issues relating to psychopathology, perception, cognition, and memory.

NATIONAL BESTSELLER • From the bestselling author of The Drunkard’s Walk, a startling, eye-opening examination of how the unconscious mind shapes our experience of the world. “Mlodinow plunges into the realm of the unconscious mind accompanied by the latest scientific research ... [with] plenty of his trademark humor.” —Los Angeles Times Over the past two decades of neurological research, it has become increasingly clear that the way we experience the world—our perception, behavior, memory, and social judgment—is largely driven by the mind's subliminal processes and not by the conscious ones, as we have long believed. In Subliminal, Leonard Mlodinow employs his signature concise, accessible explanations of the most obscure scientific subjects to unravel the complexities of the subliminal mind. In the process he shows the many ways it influences how we misperceive our relationships with family, friends, and business associates; how we misunderstand the reasons for our investment decisions; and how we misremember important events—along the way, changing our view of ourselves and the world around us.

Have you ever wished you could penetrate someone's mind? Are you one of those people who are drawn to exploring the depths of the human psyche? Are you tired of being prey to emotional predators and manipulators and want to learn the art of subliminal psychology to fully protect yourself? We like to think of ourselves as independent actors who control our decisions, but the truth is much more complicated. As powerful as the mind and intellect are, each individual has grey space in their psyche. This grey space is the primal, subconscious and unexplored force. The relationship between the conscious and the subconscious is like the iceberg floating in the ocean. Consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg we see. The subconscious, however, is where the triggers occur and where the subliminal messages reach us. This is where the outside influence settles. We are all suggestible, in one way or another. The mind is flexible and gullible, but it can be an object of awareness and self-control. This book is about the other side of the iceberg, it's about what we don't see and what others don't see or recognise in themselves. Here is a brief taste of what you will learn: - The truth about subliminal psychology and false myths. - The subliminal messages under X-rays to recognise them immediately and never fall into the trap again. - Deep analysis of the drives and the most hidden desires of human beings to decode their intentions. - Simple and advanced subliminal manipulation techniques to penetrate someone's mind. - Short and long-term effects of subliminal manipulation on decision making. - How to defend yourself from the powerful attacks of subliminal predators. - Subliminal reprogramming for mental health, removing mental blocks that prevent your happiness. - Unlock infinite potential with subliminal learning to acquire whatever knowledge you want. Let me ask you a question. Do you want to influence or be influenced? If you understand, unfortunately you have no choice. No matter how much we want to be in control of our reactions, we are subject to external influences – whether or not we are aware of it. If you are tired of constantly being the object of manipulative tactics, this dark art historically reserved for secret societies and big brands is now within everyone's reach, and is about to be in your hands. Use it carefully. So, what are you waiting for? Swipe up, click the "Buy" button now and begin your journey!
