The Committee for Pollution Abatement Research (CPAR) sponsored the operating costs of a research program during the fiscal year 1973-1974. This report summarizes the results so far. The major objectives of this report were to assess foam separation as a technique for removal of toxicity from bleach kraft mill effluents, to verify on a field scale unit those process parameters which were found optimal during recent laboratory studies, to determine the process reliability when operating on effluents of changing composition, to assess the feasibility of combining detoxification by foam separation with removal of fibrous suspended solids in a primary treatment process, to investigate the feasibility of removing non-settleable biological solids by foam separation, and to define the technical and economical feasibility of foam separation for large scale application.
