The primary objectives of this study are to estimate the abundance and length composition of lake trout Salvelinus namaycush in the Tangle Lakes system and to update the sustainable harvest level using the Lake Area model. Abundance and length composition will be estimated for the portion of the population that is susceptible to capture with hook-and-line sampling gear. To estimate abundance, two-event mark-recapture experiments for closed populations will be conducted on lakes within the Tangle Lakes system. Fish will be captured and marked in Lower Tangle Lake in April 2023 and in Upper, Round, Shallow, and Lower Tangle Lakes in June 2023. Recapture events will occur at the respective lakes in April and June 2024. The weights of fish captured with common sport fishing gear during the June sampling events will be used to estimate the number of fish that can be sustainably harvested on an annual basis using the Lake Area model. Abundance estimates will be generated for individual lakes or groups of lakes based on the movements of recaptured fish and results from a concurrent telemetry study. Abundance estimates will be compared to the updated estimate of sustainable harvest level and to estimates of catch and harvest generated by the Alaska Sport Fishing Statewide Harvest Survey to determine if current harvest limits and regulations are appropriate.

The primary objectives of this study are to estimate the abundance and length composition of lake trout Salvelinus namaycush in Fielding Lake and update the sustainable harvest level using the Lake Area model. Abundance and length composition of lake trout will be estimated for 2 different populations of inference in Fielding Lake: 1) fish large enough to be captured by common sport fishing gear, and; 2) mature spawning males. To estimate abundance and length composition germane to each population, 2 separate two-event mark-recapture experiments will be conducted. The first experiment will utilize common sport fishing gear and techniques to capture fish throughout the lake in June 2020 and 2021, while the second experiment will capture spawning fish in September 2020 and 2021 with a beach seine. The weights of fish captured with common sport fishing gear during the first experiment will be used to estimate the number of lake trout that can be sustainably harvested on an annual basis using the Lake Area model. Abundance estimates will be compared to the updated sustainable harvest level and to previous population assessments to determine if current harvest limits and regulations are appropriate.

During August 2004, 40 lake trout, Salvelinus namaycush, were captured in the connected Tangle Lakes (Upper, Round, Shallow, and Lower) in Interior Alaska. These fish were implanted with radio transmitters and tracked for two years in an attempt to locate all of the significant spawning locations within the lake complex. Describing potential movements among the lakes as well as between spawning areas were of primary interest. The purpose of this study was to collect data that would help design a future study to estimate annual yield potential of lake trout in the sport fishery.

A 2-year mark-recapture experiment was conducted on lake trout Salvelinus namaycush in Chandler and Little Chandler lakes. Intensive hook and line sampling occurred throughout both lakes for a 3-week period shortly after ice out in 2017 and 2018. The first event spanned 3-21 July 2017 and the second event spanned 28 June-22 July 2018. A length-stratified Chapman estimator was used to estimate lake trout abundance. Estimated abundance for lake trout 450-599 mm FL was 5,287 (SE = 683; 95% CI = 3,948-6,626), estimated abundance for fish ≥600 mm FL was 472 (SE = 94; 95% CI = 288-655), and the combined estimate of lake trout ≥450 mm FL was 5,759 (SE = 689; 95% CI = 4,407-7,110). Lake trout 500-549 mm represented 56% (SE = 1.5%) of the estimated population. Fish ≥600 mm FL accounted for 8% (SE = 1.6%) of the estimated population and 2% (SE = 0.4%) were ≥800 mm FL. A total of 305 lake trout were weighed in 2017 and their mean weight of 2.03 kg was used in the lake area (LA) model to estimate a yield potential (YP) of 400 lake trout annually from Chandler and Little Chandler lakes combined.

A kitchen classic for over 35 years, and hailed by Time magazine as "a minor masterpiece" when it first appeared in 1984, On Food and Cooking is the bible which food lovers and professional chefs worldwide turn to for an understanding of where our foods come from, what exactly they're made of, and how cooking transforms them into something new and delicious. For its twentieth anniversary, Harold McGee prepared a new, fully revised and updated edition of On Food and Cooking. He has rewritten the text almost completely, expanded it by two-thirds, and commissioned more than 100 new illustrations. As compulsively readable and engaging as ever, the new On Food and Cooking provides countless eye-opening insights into food, its preparation, and its enjoyment. On Food and Cooking pioneered the translation of technical food science into cook-friendly kitchen science and helped birth the inventive culinary movement known as "molecular gastronomy." Though other books have been written about kitchen science, On Food and Cooking remains unmatched in the accuracy, clarity, and thoroughness of its explanations, and the intriguing way in which it blends science with the historical evolution of foods and cooking techniques. Among the major themes addressed throughout the new edition are: · Traditional and modern methods of food production and their influences on food quality · The great diversity of methods by which people in different places and times have prepared the same ingredients · Tips for selecting the best ingredients and preparing them successfully · The particular substances that give foods their flavors, and that give us pleasure · Our evolving knowledge of the health benefits and risks of foods On Food and Cooking is an invaluable and monumental compendium of basic information about ingredients, cooking methods, and the pleasures of eating. It will delight and fascinate anyone who has ever cooked, savored, or wondered about food.
