STAR COMICS #4THE EARLY GOLDEN AGE CLASSICHUMOR - ADVENTURE - HISTORY - FANTASY - MORE!In the days before the Golden Age, when the comic books were still an untested and new experience, STAR COMICS entered the scene. The humor is often crude, politically incorrect, even racist; the adventures fresh and exciting; the art some of the best of the day. It only lasted six issues --- but it made an indelible mark on the history of comics and the culture of the country! We're publishing the first five issues (plus portions of the sixth, until we can obtain the complete files) individually, OR you can get it as the three-volume STAR COMICS COLLECTION ---- OR get it all under one cover in the 350-plus page CLASSIC COMICS LIBRARY #35!Typically CLASSIC COMICS LIBRARY books are ALL STORIES - NO ADS. We've made some exceptions for STAR COMICS, because the ads are unique and in themselves a part of comic history, not published hundreds of times in many different books.Get the complete catalog by [email protected] - This book was created in the 1930's, and reflects the culture or the day. As a result, some of the characters and stories are politically incorrect, even racist. We don't condone this way of thinking, but to remove it would be to change the history of who we were as a country, scars and all.

Focusing especially on American comic books and graphic novels from the 1930s to the present, this massive four-volume work provides a colorful yet authoritative source on the entire history of the comics medium. Comics and graphic novels have recently become big business, serving as the inspiration for blockbuster Hollywood movies such as the Iron Man series of films and the hit television drama The Walking Dead. But comics have been popular throughout the 20th century despite the significant effects of the restrictions of the Comics Code in place from the 1950s through 1970s, which prohibited the depiction of zombies and use of the word "horror," among many other rules. Comics through Time: A History of Icons, Idols, and Ideas provides students and general readers a one-stop resource for researching topics, genres, works, and artists of comic books, comic strips, and graphic novels. The comprehensive and broad coverage of this set is organized chronologically by volume. Volume 1 covers 1960 and earlier; Volume 2 covers 1960–1980; Volume 3 covers 1980–1995; and Volume 4 covers 1995 to the present. The chronological divisions give readers a sense of the evolution of comics within the larger contexts of American culture and history. The alphabetically arranged entries in each volume address topics such as comics publishing, characters, imprints, genres, themes, titles, artists, writers, and more. While special attention is paid to American comics, the entries also include coverage of British, Japanese, and European comics that have influenced illustrated storytelling of the United States or are of special interest to American readers.

Taking a multifaceted approach to attitudes toward race through popular culture and the American superhero, All New, All Different? explores a topic that until now has only received more discrete examination. Considering Marvel, DC, and lesser-known texts and heroes, this illuminating work charts eighty years of evolution in the portrayal of race in comics as well as in film and on television. Beginning with World War II, the authors trace the vexed depictions in early superhero stories, considering both Asian villains and nonwhite sidekicks. While the emergence of Black Panther, Black Lightning, Luke Cage, Storm, and other heroes in the 1960s and 1970s reflected a cultural revolution, the book reveals how nonwhite superheroes nonetheless remained grounded in outdated assumptions. Multiculturalism encouraged further diversity, with 1980s superteams, the minority-run company Milestone’s new characters in the 1990s, and the arrival of Ms. Marvel, a Pakistani-American heroine, and a new Latinx Spider-Man in the 2000s. Concluding with contemporary efforts to make both a profit and a positive impact on society, All New, All Different? enriches our understanding of the complex issues of racial representation in American popular culture.
