Excerpt from Suggestions for Spring Planting, 1926 Our business has shown a steady increase year after year, except during the war years when we did very little. And the Bay State Nurseries is now one of the leading, if not the very largest nursery in New England. We have had the pleasure of serving many of our customers year after year, and the fact that we advertise very little indicates that our customers have been speaking for us, which after all is the best kind of advertising. Mr. Windsor H. Wyman started The Bay State Nurseries in 1894, and it is through his efiorts that the nursery covers such a large acreage and has such splendid equipment with which-to do business. In 1910 he purchased the Fram ingham Nurseries at Framingham, Massachusetts, and Operated the two nur series separately, until 1920, when he sold the Framingham Nurseries to Richard M. Wyman, his elder son. At about the same time he took his younger son, Donald D. Wyman, into partnership with him at The Bay State Nurseries, and the firm name is known as W. H. Wyman 8c Son. We are not in any way identified with any other nursery in which the name Wyman appears, but are the oldest and largest nursery organization which is owned by a Wyman. There seems to be some confusion, and that is why we have put in this word of explanation. We are on the very best terms with all these other concerns, and have frequently occasion to buy from them, as they also buy from us. Claude Wheeler is a young man who was born after the American frontier has vanished. The son of a successful farmer and an intensely pious mother, Wheeler is guaranteed a comfortable livelihood. Nevertheless, Wheeler views himself as a victim of his father's success and his own inexplicable malaise. Thus, devoid of parental and spousal love, Wheeler finds a new purpose to his life in France, a faraway country that only existed for him in maps before the First World War. Will Wheeler ever succeed in his new goal? The novel is inspired from real-life events and also won the Pulitzer Prize in 1923.

My Omaha Obsession takes the reader on an idiosyncratic tour through some of Omaha’s neighborhoods, buildings, architecture, and people, celebrating the city’s unusual history. Rather than covering the city’s best-known sites, Miss Cassette is irresistibly drawn to strange little buildings and glorious large homes that don’t exist anymore as well as to stories of Harkert’s Holsum Hamburgers and the Twenties Club. Piecing together the records of buildings and homes and everything interesting that came after, Miss Cassette shares her observations of the property and its significance to Omaha. She scrutinizes land deeds, insurance maps, tax records, and old newspaper articles to uncover a property’s singular story. Through conversations with fellow detectives and history enthusiasts, she guides readers along her path of hunches, personal interests, mishaps, and more. As a longtime resident of Omaha, Miss Cassette is informed by memories of her youth combined with an enduring curiosity about the city’s offbeat relics and remains. Part memoir and part research guide with a healthy dose of colorful wandering, My Omaha Obsession celebrates the historic built environment and searches for the people who shaped early Omaha.

Common Forest Trees of Hawaii, first published in 1989 as USDA Forest Service Agriculture Handbook 679, is an illustrated reference for identifying the common trees in the forests of Hawaii. Useful information about each species is also compiled, including Hawaiian, English, and scientific names; description; distribution within the islands and beyond; uses of wood and other products; and additional notes. The 152 species described and illustrated by line drawings comprise 60 native species (including 53 that are endemic), 85 species introduced after the arrival of Europeans, and 7 species introduced apparently by the early Hawaiians. One chapter is devoted to forests and forestry in Hawaii. Maps of the Hawaiian Islands show the physical features and place names, major forest types, and forest reserves and conservation districts. Each tree species is illustrated by a full-page line drawing.
