Abstract: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations developed as a result of the 1930's economic depression and pioneer studies in nutrition. FAO became the international attack on world food and agricultural problems. The problems of shortages and supplies faced by FAO are concentrated on developing nations where economic development has not kept pace with population growth. Addeke H. Boerma became fifth Director-General of FAO in 1968. His main concern was the world food problem.
