The question that this book raises is whether a romantic view of Denver and the American West was entirely wrong. We see enough of the sky, fields and mountains to believe that it was not - and perhaps is not - although the photographs catalog many ways in which we have compromised our vision. The book is about the past, bu it asks us to turn to the future, to a time when we might learn to live in harmony with the land and with each other--

The pioneer group of the Düsseldorf School The ‘Düsseldorf School’ has become a household name in the art world for one of the most successful and influential strains of modern photography. Coined in the late 1980s, the name refers mainly to the pioneer group of students of the late Bernd Becher, who in 1976 became the first professor for creative photography at a German arts academy. His students included Andreas Gursky, Candida Höfer, Axel Hütte, Thomas Ruff, and Thomas Struth, all of them today internationally acclaimed artists in their own right. Whereas ‘Düsseldorf School’ initially was used as a handy term for a group of artists with the same university’s background, it quickly turned into a powerful brand name both in critical and commercial contexts. Despite its welcomed impact on the art scene, the members of the ‘School’ felt rather ambiguous about their perception as a group which turned them into stars but simultaneously risked levelling individual profiles and differences. What exactly connects and distinguishes them aesthetically is for the first time thoroughly explored in Maren Polte’s pioneering study.

American Martha Rosler is one of the most politically motivated artists of her generation. Through her art she interrogates moral and political ideology and encourages social activism. Most of the encounters that unfold in Rosler's works originate in seemingly ordinary everday scenes of domestic life, such as shopping, watching the news, reading the newspaper, travelling. Her photographs shed light on the many ways in which these routines are governed by social norms. Many of the pieces are working agit-prop never intended for the museum but circulated through left wing papers, magazines, anti-war journals and poster campaigns. The 'best means to communicate the message' being the preference. Rosler also produces hilarious anti-TV video productions that satirise and denounce capitalism and all its effects.

Helen Parry Jones has been a professional spiritual healer and empathic medium for thirty years. She has filled theatres and auditoriums and appeared on radio and TV. But this is the first time she has told her incredible story. When she was four, Helen Parry Jones realised that she could see things that other people could not -- like the animals she played with and the silent man in army uniform who sat in her grandmother's sitting room. But it wasn't until she met her Guardian Guide Sam and had regular tutorials from him did she start to understand the significance of what she had been experiencing. Because Helen can see and communicate with spirit and angels, through them she has developed naturally the extraordinary gift of healing, and bringing messages of hope and love from people in spirit to their friends and family. But it is a gift that has also caused her much pain. As a child, Helen's parents did not believe what she told them; instead they chastised her for lying and making up stories. Only Helen's beloved grandmother truly understood, and with her love and Sam's guidance, Helen learned to use her extraordinary gifts to bring hope and healing, both spiritually and physically to those in need.
