Everyone needs a break climbing up the steep mountain of wisdom in all the non-fiction books on the subject of metaphysics and spiritual growth. But entertaining fiction in spiritual growth has yet to fully address the growing interest in metaphysics and the increasing popularity of Buddhism and new-age alternatives. This new series provides thought-provoking entertainment for all spiritually curious individuals to explore. Several young adult misfits learn to change the world by using ancient teachings to change themselves. Extreme, often comical characters, dive into difficult life dilemmas, testing philosophical solutions to better their lives - while contemplating profound possibilities about the universe. If such outrageous characters can find more peaceful paths in their reckless lives, so can the rest of us. In this first book, Begging for Enlightenment, Jason The Juggler stumbles down the path of enlightenment while doing battle with samurai warriors, TV evangelists, ex-girlfriends, and his life-long nemesis...his angry past. Strippers, saintly actors, and visionary monks all offer guidance and wisdom, whether they want to or not.

Bold, unguarded work . . . that resists pat definition. [Young Jean] Lee has penned profane lampoons of motivational bromides (Pullman, WA) and the Romantic poets (The Appeal). Now she piles her deconstructive scorn upon ethnic stereotypes in Song...

Sometimes the losses of childhood can be recovered only in the flight of the dragonfly. Native American children have long been subject to removal from their homes for placement in residential schools and, more recently, in foster or adoptive homes. The governments of both the United States and Canada, having reduced Native nations to the legal status of dependent children, historically have asserted a surrogate parentalism over Native children themselves. Children of the Dragonfly is the first anthology to document this struggle for cultural survival on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border. Through autobiography and interviews, fiction and traditional tales, official transcripts and poetry, these voices— Seneca, Cherokee, Mohawk, Navajo, and many others— weave powerful accounts of struggle and loss into a moving testimony to perseverance and survival. Invoking the dragonfly spirit of Zuni legend who helps children restore a way of life that has been taken from them, the anthology explores the breadth of the conflict about Native childhood. Included are works of contemporary authors Sherman Alexie, Joy Harjo, Luci Tapahonso, and others; classic writers Zitkala-Sa and E. Pauline Johnson; and contributions from twenty important new writers as well. They take readers from the boarding school movement of the 1870s to the Sixties Scoop in Canada and the Indian Child Welfare Act of 1978 in the United States. They also spotlight the tragic consequences of racist practices such as the suppression of Indian identity in government schools and the campaign against Indian childbearing through involuntary sterilization. Proof that a mother's love is with us through it all... Meet Savannah, the thirty-something owner of Life Celebrations, a party planning business. Despite losing both parents as a teenager, Savannah is creating a positive life for herself, surrounded by friends and co-workers who are now her family. But she also has a secret—as much as she wants to settle down and have children, she is afraid of getting sick too, and having to leave them without their mother, as she herself was left behind years ago. Her mother is Deirdre Rose. She continues to watch over Savannah, who feels deeply connected to her mother whenever a dragonfly crosses her path. Now meet Ben, a good-looking, talented recording artist who is already a household name. Yeah, he’s famous, but he’s also painfully lonely. He trusts few people because it seems everyone wants something from him instead of getting to know who he really is. As fate would have it, Savannah and Ben cross paths at a yoga retreat in the Massachusetts Berkshires. They are drawn to each other’s creativity and outlook on life. She sees beyond his celebrity and he admires her strength in what she’s had to overcome. What happens when the retreat ends and they're forced to go their separate ways? Will they be able to make a long distance relationship work? Can Savannah put aside her fears, and will Ben allow himself to be truly vulnerable? Above all . . . what message do Deirdre Rose and Dragonflies have for both of them?
