Digital preservation is an issue faced by practitioners in Ross Harveythe library and recordkeeping professions, yet most professionalshave little time to keep up with the latest techniquesand standards. This invaluable work provides a single-volume introduction to the principles, strategies and practices currently applied by librarians and recordkeepers to the preservation of digital information and will assist them to make informed decisions about the role of digital information in their care. The book is presented in four parts: Why do we preserve? What do we preserve? How do we preserve? and How do we manage digital preservation? Each part covers the area in detail and addresses current issues in a clear and informative manner. The terminology of the field is explained clearly throughout the book. Each chapter includes a range of case studies from institutionsat the forefront of digital object preservation. An index facilitates quick access. This book will be essential as a professional reference tool for all librarians, recordkeepers and archivists with preservation responsibilities as well as being a definitive source of information for the whole profession including students.

You can select your solvent by several categories, e.g. name, Chemical Abstracts Number, chemical formula, property range, etc. Health and safety considerations can be involved in choosing and using solvents, as well as regulatory responsibilities, including exposure and effluent limits; environmental fate data; you have the ability to exclude compounds from searches based on health or regulatory criteria for example: find all compounds not regulated under RCRA, not carcinogenic, and not mutagenic; you have the ability to select compounds based on descriptive strings for example: find all solvents that smell like "banana", etc.

Names, Synonyms, and Structures of Organic Compounds provides critical information on the identity of chemicals and allows easy cross referencing among the diverse nomenclatures used by the various scientific disciplines. The compounds selected include most common organic compounds: pesticides, alternative refrigerants, priority pollutants, and other compounds of commercial and environmental importance. This excellent reference provides names, synonyms, molecular formulas, and CAS Registry Numbers for 27,500 organic compounds. The compendium contains 135,000 synonyms and 20,000 chemical structures. Compounds are arranged in ascending order of CAS Registry Numbers. For your convenience, Names, Synonyms, and Structures of Organic Compounds is indexed both by Name/Synonym and Molecular Formula. For all researchers, students, librarians, and professionals working with chemicals, Names, Synonyms, and Structures of Organic Compounds is a must! It is particularly useful to anyone working with organic compounds who has a common or trade name of a compound and needs to determine its CAS Registry number.

Domain decomposition (DD) methods provide powerful tools for constructing parallel numerical solution algorithms for large scale systems of algebraic equations arising from the discretization of partial differential equations. These methods are well-established and belong to a fast developing area. In this volume, the reader will find a brief historical overview, the basic results of the general theory of domain and space decomposition methods as well as the description and analysis of practical DD algorithms for parallel computing. It is typical to find in this volume that most of the presented DD solvers belong to the family of fast algorithms, where each component is efficient with respect to the arithmetical work. Readers will discover new analysis results for both the well-known basic DD solvers and some DD methods recently devised by the authors, e.g., for elliptic problems with varying chaotically piecewise constant orthotropism without restrictions on the finite aspect ratios. The hp finite element discretizations, in particular, by spectral elements of elliptic equations are given significant attention in current research and applications. This volume is the first to feature all components of Dirichlet-Dirichlet-type DD solvers for hp discretizations devised as numerical procedures which result in DD solvers that are almost optimal with respect to the computational work. The most important DD solvers are presented in the matrix/vector form algorithms that are convenient for practical use.
