"Industry 4.0: Smart Factories" comes after our first book "Industry 4.0: Navigating the Manufacturing Revolution in ASEAN" (2019), and takes us through the key technologies as the pillars to build up a Smart Factory to transform the current manufacturing operations into a brand new model driven by the innovation based on the real-time data collection, processing and analysis. We also present our understanding of the principles of building a real smart factory. As a surging region, ASEAN is on its way to gain a lot of value from this round of revolution and catch up with the leading economies and find our place in the global value chain.

The digitization of factories promises great potential benefits. The implementation of the various technologies for the smart factory is extremely complex, requires new competencies and necessitates significant investments. The question is: How can an industrial company successfully manage this transformation? For this purpose, more than 500 published use cases were screened. These could be categorized into 44 relevant use cases, which we describe in detail in the book. Our research has also shown that strategy and goal orientation must be at the core of the change. Furthermore, the combination of employee knowledge and use of technology is central to success. This led to the creation of our smart factory implementation approach. In various research and consulting projects we were able to apply this process and realize successful implementations in different companies. This 7-step process starts with the selection of promising use cases, followed by a prioritization step, adaptation to the company-specific context and a detailing of the information needs for the different management levels. Stringent project management helps the user achieve positive results that can then be rolled out on a global scale. This process is not only applicable to the "actual factory" but can also be used to design smart services for the factory of tomorrow. Industrial internet of things (IIoT) is changing the face of industry by completely redefining the way stakeholders, enterprises, and machines connect and interact with each other in the industrial digital ecosystem. Smart and connected factories, in which all the machinery transmits real-time data, enable industrial data analytics for improving operational efficiency, productivity, and industrial processes, thus creating new business opportunities, asset utilization, and connected services. IIoT leads factories to step out of legacy environments and arcane processes towards open digital industrial ecosystems. Innovations in the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Smart Factory is a pivotal reference source that discusses the development of models and algorithms for predictive control of industrial operations and focuses on optimization of industrial operational efficiency, rationalization, automation, and maintenance. While highlighting topics such as artificial intelligence, cyber security, and data collection, this book is ideally designed for engineers, manufacturers, industrialists, managers, IT consultants, practitioners, students, researchers, and industrial industry professionals.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies enable manufacturing systems to sense the environment, adapt to external needs, and extract process knowledge, including business models such as intelligent production, networked collaboration, and extended service models. This book therefore focuses on the implementation of AI in customized manufacturing (CM). The main topics include edge intelligence in manufacturing, heterogeneous networks, intelligent fault diagnosis and maintenance, dynamic resource scheduling in manufacturing, and the construction mode of the smart factory. Based on the insights of CM and AI, the authors demonstrate the implementation of AI in the smart factory for CM, including architecture, information fusion, data analysis, dynamic scheduling, flexible production line construction, and smart manufacturing services. This book will provide important research content for scholars in artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, machine learning, multi-agent systems, and industrial Internet of Things.

The world progresses toward Industry 4.0, and manufacturers are challenged to successfully navigate this unique digital journey. To some, digitalization is a golden opportunity; to others, it is a necessary evil. But to optimist and pessimist alike, there is a widespread puzzlement over the practical details of digitalization. To many manufacturers, digital transformation is a vague and confusing concept they nevertheless must grapple with in order to survive the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The proliferation of digital manufacturing technologies adds to the confusion, leaving many manufacturers perplexed and unprepared, with little real insight into how emerging technologies can help them sustain a competitive edge in their markets. This book effectively conveys Siemens's knowledge and experience through a concept called "Smart Digital Manufacturing," a stepwise approach to realizing the promise of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The Smart Digital Manufacturing roadmap provides guidance and enables low-risk, high-reward adoption of new manufacturing software technologies through a series of tipping-point investment decisions that result in optimized manufacturing performance. The book provides readers with a clear understanding of what digital technology has to offer them, and how and when to invest in these essential components of tomorrow?s factories. René Wolf is Senior Vice President of Manufacturing Operations Management Software for Siemens Digital Industries Software, a business unit of the Siemens Digital Factory Division. Raffaello Lepratti is Vice President of Business Development and Marketing for Siemens Digital Industries Software.

This book describes the concept, characteristics, methodology, design, management, business, recent advances and future technologies of plant factories with artificial lighting (PFAL) and indoor vertical farms. The third wave of PFAL business started in around 2010 in Japan and Taiwan, and in USA and Europe it began in about 2013 after the rapid advances in LED technology. The book discusses the basic and advanced developments in recent PFALs and future smart PFALs that emerged in 2016. There is an emerging interest around the globe in smart PFAL R&D and business, which are expected to play an important role in urban agriculture in the coming decades. It is also expected that they will contribute to solving the trilemma of food, environment and natural resources with increasing urban populations and decreasing agricultural populations and arable land area. Current obstacles to successful PFAL R&D and business are: 1) no well-accepted concepts and methodology for PFAL design and management, 2) lack of understanding of the environmental effects on plant growth and development and hydroponics among engineers; 3) lack of understanding of the technical and engineering aspects of PFAL among horticulturists; 4) lack of knowledge of the technical challenges and opportunities in future PFAL businesses among business professionals, policy makers, and investors and 5) lack of a suitable textbook on the recent advances in PFAL technologies and business for graduate students and young researchers. This book covers all the aspects of successful smart PFAL R & D and business.

This book discusses three key aspects of business operations: sustainability, human factors, and smart manufacturing, which make up modern business. The authors share their experiences in the transformation of enterprises to Industry 4.0/5.0 and the sustainability of steel production, as well as the reorganization of human factors using the example of the steel sector. The steel industry is covered both from a global perspective (key producers in the global steel market), as well as from a local and sectoral perspective (the companies that make up the sector of metal and metal product producers, using Poland as an example). This insightful book discusses how the steel industry can develop intelligent solutions to enhance sustainable performance and the challenges they must overcome, including policy and regulation. Case studies evaluate how steel companies are investing in new technologies that meet environmental requirements but also human resource development to enhance digital skills and competencies of the workforce. The book will find an audience across disciplines but be of particular value to scholars of industrial, operations, and technology management.
