A brand-new Sherlock Holmes mystery from acclaimed author Philip Purser-Hallard. A Mysterious Disappearance It is 1896, and Sherlock Holmes is investigating a self-proclaimed psychic who disappeared from a locked room, in front of several witnesses. While attempting to prove the existence of telekinesis to a scientific society, an alleged psychic, Kellway, vanished before their eyes during the experiment. With a large reward at stake, Holmes is convinced Kellway is a charlatan – or he would be, if he had returned to claim his prize. As Holmes and Watson investigate, the case only grows stranger, and they must contend with an interfering "occult detective" and an increasingly deranged cult. New York Times bestselling author James Lovegrove's continues the story of Sherlock Holmes and The Hound of the Baskervilles, as five years later, another monstrous creature stalks across Dartmoor... 1894. The monstrous Hound of the Baskervilles has been dead for five years, along with its no less monstrous owner, the naturalist Jack Stapleton. Sir Henry Baskerville is living contentedly at Baskerville Hall with his new wife Audrey and their three-year-old son Harry. Until, that is, Audrey's lifeless body is found on the moors, drained of blood. It would appear some fiendish creature is once more at large on Dartmoor and has, like its predecessor, targeted the unfortunate Baskerville family. Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson are summoned to Sir Henry's aid, and our heroes must face a marauding beast that is the very stuff of nightmares. It seems that Stapleton may not have perished in the Great Grimpen Mire after all, as Holmes believed, and is hell-bent on revenge...

The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle - is the final set of twelve (out of a total of fifty-six) Sherlock Holmes short stories by British writer Arthur Conan Doyle first published in the Strand Magazine between October 1921 and April 1927. Title of collection: The first British edition of the collection, published by John Murray, and the first American edition, published by George H. Doran Co., were both published in June 1927. However, they had slightly different titles. The title of the British collection was The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (hyphenated "Case-Book"), whereas the title of the American edition was The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes ("Case Book" as two words). Further confusing the issue of the title, some later publishers released the collection under the title The Casebook of Sherlock Holmes ("Casebook" as a single word). Contents: The first edition of The Case-Book, published by John Murray in 1927, does not present the stories in the order in which they were published:[2] 1 The Adventure of the Illustrious Client 2 The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier 3 The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone 4 The Adventure of the Three Gables 5 The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire 6 The Adventure of the Three Garridebs 7 The Problem of Thor Bridge 8 The Adventure of the Creeping Man 9 The Adventure of the Lion's Mane 10 The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger 11 The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place 12 The Adventure of the Retired Colourman

Not all the cases presented to Holmes could be solved by "grasping that one strand of logical reasoning that anchored us to the world in which we trust" for logic cannot always defend against the irrational, and sometimes, the irrational is truth.
