Download Universal Citation Guide Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
"Because of the many changes in the way information is accessed from a variety of formats and platforms, the need for universal citation systems is even greater than a decade ago when the last edition was published. This new edition has been made easier to use, to smooth the transition as courts, states, and journals adopt the system. It contains a reprint of 'Universal Citation and AALL: A White Paper', which gives an in-depth treatment of the history of universal citation, and describes how a few of the states have implemented such systems; rules for judicial opinions, constitutions, statutes, administrative decisions and regulations, court rules and law reviews, which have been clarified and standardized, with additional examples to help demonstrate how the rules are applied; and appendices of recommended abbreviations, which have been updated and made easier to navigate"--Publisher.

Download Law Library Collection Development in the Digital Age Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
While the digital revolution has touched every aspect of law librarianship, perhaps nowhere has the effect been more profound than in the area of collection development. Many of the materials law libraries traditionally collected in print form are now available in electronic format. Digital technology has affected the way we select, order, and process legal materials. The World Wide Web has created an explosion of both commercial and private online publishing. The cost of electronic publishing has caused many traditional law book publishers to sell their companies rather than invest in the needed technologies to compete in the 21st century. Small publishers and book jobbers have been forced to reinvent themselves. The amount of legal information available and its costs continue to soar. Law Library Collection Development in the Digital Age deals with these and other issues related to law library collection development. Chapters range from the theoretical to the practical. Inspired by Penny Hazleton’s seminal paper “How Much of Your Print Collection is Really on Lexis or Westlaw?” the editors and chapter authors of Law Library Collection Development in the Digital Age endeavor to expand on professor Hazleton’s work, with examinations of: the role of law libraries in strategic planning for distance learning Web mirror sites trust vs. antitrust issues access vs. ownership issues how law libraries deal with electronic court records, dockets, and filings the growth of e-journals as they relate to legal publishing how the Hein Greenslips and Blackwell North America’s Bookservice cover legal materials past, present, and future roles of specialized book jobbers and more! Anyone interested in law librarianship or the information industry will find this book informative and useful. Make it a part of your professional collection today.

Download Basics of Law Librarianship Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Here is an essential introductory guide on all aspects of law librarianship written especially for non-law librarians, library school students, and beginning law librarians. Although there are several excellent practical handbooks and numerous articles on specific topics of law librarianship for practicing law librarians, Basics of Law Librarianship is the only resource that addresses the information needs of the student or new law librarian. Author Deborah Panella, managing librarian of a large, prominent New York law firm, explores the major areas of law librarianship. She covers vital topics such as the legal clientele, collection development, research tools, technical services, impact of technology, and management issues, and describes what makes law libraries different from other special libraries. She has written a clear, readable volume without excessive detail or the use of special terminology. The bibliography of law library literature and the index add enormously to the book’s value as a major reference.

Download A Selection of Cases on the Law of Contracts Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The first casebook, Harvard Law School, 1871. Originally published: Boston: Little Brown & Co., 1871. xvi, 1022 pp. The landmark work that introduced the revolutionary idea of the "case system" to legal education, which Langdell instituted in his position as Dean at Harvard law School. A response to the European educational practice of the expository textbook as the basis of study, Langdell invented herein the use of original authorities to teach legal principles in his classes at Harvard. He posted lists of leading cases on the bulletin boards or announced them in class beforehand. The students prepared for class by going to the library, taking down the reports, and studying them. The process was both injurious to the library collection and inconvenient for the students. It was very soon apparent to Langdell that having done away with the traditional textbook, the law library was not a satisfactory alternative. No library had, or could afford, the number of duplicate volumes of the court reports that were required so that all students could have easy and equal access to the cases. Langdell's solution was the casebook. This innovation in legal education publishing led to the proliferation of casebooks that continue today. C[hristopher]. C[olumbus]. Langdell [1826-1906] was Dean of the law faculty at Harvard Law School from 1870 to 1895, and developed administrative programs that endured. After his death a chair in the law school was named in his honor and one of the school's buildings was named Langdell Hall. He is known for his introduction of the "case" system of legal instruction as seen in this work. His other works include Cases on Sales (1872); Summary of Equity Pleading (1877, 2nd ed., 1883); Cases in Equity Pleading (1883); and Brief Survey of Equity Jurisdiction (1905).
