That part of this mortgage, namely the $694 68, which was the property of the Class, I had assigned to me as Secretary of the Class of 1868, of Harvard Uni versity. The instrument bears date July 10, 1875, and is recorded in Suffolk County, L. Libro 124, folio 8. A suit to foreclose this mortgage was pending at the time of the assignment, and is not yet determined. With this exception the Treasury was empty but I am happy to report the receipt of over since the last Commencement, the funds being deposited in the Boston Five Cents savings-bank, and drawing interest at five per cent. Excerpt from The Secretary's Report of the Class of 1866, of Harvard College: June, 1876 June, 1881 Here is your own story of your last five years. I think you will all agree that if they have been as dry and meagre as the account you have given me, they must have been dull enough. However, reticence is often a virtue, and a man who will not give himself away once in five years to his Class Secretary should inspire confidence in any occupation or.in any walk of life. Short as your answers were to my circular, I was pleased with their number; only six out of the one hundred failed to reply. Excerpt from Secretary's Report, No. Vi, 1900 The autobiographic form which I have used from the beginning in my reports, and which has become quite general, has advantages in accuracy, in readableness, and in the personal avor which it imparts, but for men who are inclined to be modest it has serious drawbacks. Excerpt from Secretary's Report, Vol. 1: July, 1882 I have the honor to present to you my first report as your Secretary. In the preparation of it I have followed quite closely the reports of the last two years, making but one change of any importance. The first list of the class on pages 5, ct seq. Has formerly contained the names of those who were regular members of the class during Senior year. Formerly no list has been given of those who received degrees. In this report the first list is of those who received degrees. To this fact the double column entitled Class of 1882 in the statistics (probable occu pation, etc.) is due. The first half of this column gives the statistics of those who were regular members of the class during the Senior year, the second the statistics of those who received degrees. Thus our class may be compared with preceding classes and also the statistics of our class, as composed of those who received degrees, may be examined. I imagine that eventually the statistics of graduating classes given by secretaries will be of those graduating, and with this idea in mind I have made the change. At any rate it seems to me that the report ought to contain a list of those who graduate. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
