The?{sub b} baryon has been observed recently by UA1 through its decay?{sub b} → J/??°. Although CDF finds twice as many J/? and observes?° decays, no evidence for an?{sub b} signal is seen. The UA1 data supports a lower than expected production P{sub T} for the?{sub b}, and therefore, a lower pion P{sub T}, below the observation threshold of CDF. This result suggests that UA1 and CDF are probably not inconsistent, but also that the production models are not quite right.

We have searched for new gauge bosons (W′→ lv, Z′ → ll) and b baryons (?{sub b} →??°) in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV from the 1988--1989 run of the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF). We present 95% confidence level (C.L.) limits on the W′ and Z′ production cross section in leptonic decay modes. The nonobservation of these processes leads to limits of M{sub w{prime}}> 520 GeV/c2 and M{sub z{prime}}> 412 GeV/c2 (95% C.L.), assuming Standard Model coupling strengths. We see no evidence for the signal (?{sub b} →??°) in our? sample (? →??) around the?{sub b} mass region of 5600 MeV. We set an upper limit on F(?{sub b})Br(?{sub b} →??°) of 0.55 × 10−3 (90% C.L.), assuming that b baryons and mesons are produced in the fragmentation process in similar ways. The CDF Ai, search is also reported in the QCD session of this conference. This paper summarizes our result briefly; the details can be found in the other talk.

The CDF experiment has recorded 110 pb[sup[minus]1] of p[ovr p] collisions at[radical]s= 1.8 TeV during the 1992-1995 data taking period. Using this dataset, searches for inclusive and semileptonic[Lambda][sub b] decays were performed. The[Lambda][sub b] mass was measured to be M[sub[Lambda][sub b]][equals] 5623[plus-minus] 5(stat.)[plus-minus] 4(syst.) MeV/c[sup 2], using a sample of exclusively reconstructed[Lambda][sub b] candidate events in the[Lambda][sub b][r-arrow][Lambda]J/[psi] channel. The[Lambda][sub b] lifetime was measured to be[tau][sub[Lambda][sub b]][equals] 1. 32[plus-minus] 0.08(stat.)[plus-minus] 0.05(syst.) ps, using a sample of 197[plus-minus] 25 partially reconstructed semileptonic[Lambda][sub b][r-arrow] l[sup[minus]][Lambda][sub c][sup[plus]]X decays, with[Lambda][sub c][sup[plus]] reconstructed from its decay to the pK[sup[minus]][pi][sup[plus]] final state. Using the same decay channels, the product branching ratios were measured to be f(b[r-arrow][Lambda][sub b])B([Lambda][sub b][r-arrow][Lambda]J/[psi])= 4.2[plus-minus]1.8(stat.)[plus-minus]0.7(syst.)[times]10[sup[minus]5] and f(b[r-arrow][Lambda][sub b])B([Lambda][sub b][r-arrow] l[sup[minus]][Lambda][sub c][sup[plus]][ovr[nu]])B([Lambda][sub c][sup[plus]][r-arrow] pK[sup[minus]][pi][sup[plus]])[equals] 9.3[plus-minus]2.5(stat.)[plus-minus][sup[plus]4.6][sub[minus]4.0](syst.)[times]10[sup[minus]4], where f(b[r-arrow][Lambda][sub b]) is the fraction of b quarks forming b baryons, and l is either an electron or a muon. 15 refs., 4 figs., 1 tab.

We present the latest results on the search for bottom baryon states [Sigma]{sub b} using ≈ 1 fb−1 of CDF data. The study is performed with the world's largest sample of fully reconstructed [Lambda]{sub b}° decays collected by CDF II detector at √s = 1.96TeV in the hadronic trigger path. We observe 4 new states consistent with [Sigma]{sub b}{sup (*){+-}} bottom baryons.

We report the observation of new bottom baryon states. The most recent result is the observation of the baryon [Xi]{sub b}− through the decay [Xi]{sub b}− → J/[psi][Xi]−. The significance of the signal corresponds to 7.7[sigma] and the [Xi]{sub b}− mass is measured to be 5792.9±2.5(stat.)±1.7(syst.) MeV/c2. In addition we observe four resonances in the [Lambda]{sub b}°[pi]{sup {+-}} spectra, consistent with the bottom baryons [Sigma]{sub b}{sup (*){+-}}. All observations are in agreement with theoretical expectations.
