Supersymmetry (SUSY) is a proposed symmetry between fermions and bosons. If this symmetry does exist, it is clearly broken since only half of the particle spectrum is observed. One model which provides a simple breaking mechanism is called minimal supergravity (mSUGRA) inspired SUSY. One clean final state predicted by this model is a trilepton final state from chargino and neutralino decays. In this analysis, these events are sought in 239±16 pb-1 of D0 Run II data by requiring like-sign dimuon pairs. Requiring only two muons increases the signal acceptance, and adding the like-sign requirement reduces the Standard Model background from Drell-Yan dimuon pairs and the various resonances in the dimuon spectrum. The reach into some parts of mSUGRA parameter space will be greater when searching with the like-sign dilepton final state than the trilepton final state. Combining results from a search in the like-sign dilepton channels with searches in the trilepton channels provides increased sensitivity in the search for supersymmetry. In this dissertation, the best-ever D limit on the total cross section for associated chargino and neutralino production with leptonic final states is presented.

Download Searching for Signs of Supersymmetry at the Large Hadron Collider Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
"With the experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, physicists are in a better position than ever to test the Standard Model of particle physics and what might lie beyond it. In this thesis, we investigate one possibility of physics beyond the Standard Model: supersymmetry. We discuss phenomenological aspects of the theory and describe a series of software that allows us to look for signs of supersymmetry in particle physics experiments. Using this framework, we do a sample analysis in the $m_0$-$m_{1/2}$ plane of the CMSSM, producing a combined likelihood exclusion band based on results of the ATLAS experiment from $35 \> \text{pb} {-1}$ of $7$ TeV proton-proton collisions." --

Download Supersymmetry Beyond Minimality Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Supersymmetry (SUSY) is one of the most important ideas ever conceived in particle physics. It is a symmetry that relates known elementary particles of a certain spin to as yet undiscovered particles that differ by half a unit of that spin (known as Superparticles). Supersymmetric models now stand as the most promising candidates for a unified theory beyond the Standard Model (SM). SUSY is an elegant and simple theory, but its existence lacks direct proof. Instead of dismissing supersymmetry altogether, Supersymmetry Beyond Minimality: from Theory to Experiment suggests that SUSY may exist in more complex and subtle manifestation than the minimal model. The book explores in detail non-minimal SUSY models, in a bottom-up approach that interconnects experimental phenomena in the fermionic and bosonic sectors. The book considers with equal emphasis the Higgs and Superparticle sectors, and explains both collider and non-collider experiments. Uniquely, the book explores charge/parity and lepton flavour violation. Supersymmetry Beyond Minimality: from Theory to Experiment provides an introduction to well-motivated examples of such non-minimal SUSY models, including the ingredients for generating neutrino masses and/or relaxing the tension with the heavily constraining Large Hadron Collider (LHC) data. Examples of these scenarios are explored in depth, in particular the discussions on Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric SM (NMSSM) and B-L Supersymmetric SM (BLSSM).

Download A Search for Supersymmetry Via Chargino-Neutralino Production in Low-$p_T$ Dimuon with the Collider Detector at Fermilab Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
We have searched for evidence of supersymmetry with 1 $fb^-1$ with collected with low-$p_T$ dimuon triggers of the Collider Detector on Tevatron Run II, at Fermilab. We looked for trilepton events in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 1.96$ TeV. In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) we expect chargino-neutralino pair production, with subsequent decay into three isolated leptons. We observe one event of three isolated muons, a possible hint of supersymmetry.
