Ocean Harvest is the story of an Italian immigrant who came to America in the 1920s and quickly learned that money was very important to live the good life. Little Anthony Vallo grew up fast in Manhattan. He and his younger brother and cousin did many unscrupulous things to achieve wealth. As the years passed, he and his family grew, not only in number but in power and prestige. In the twilight of his life, he passed on the title of Godfather to his nephew. The nephew at first had great trepidation about this honor but finally accepted because he knew he could do great things with this enormous power. The Godfather had connections all over the world. He treated everyone with respect, and they grew to love him because they knew he was a man of his word. The newly appointed Godfather convinced all the other bosses in other states to change their ways of thinking. The economy was struggling all over the world, and he implemented many ideas to get people back to work. He truly believed he was chosen to finally bring peace to the world. He was right.

Although Wettach was not hired as an FSA photographer, his pictures provide a fascinating parallel to the more famous work of his FSA colleagues Walker Evans, Dorothea Lange, and Russell Lee. Yet unlike their photographs, his reveal an amazing intimacy and familiarity with his subjects, who were frequently his friends, neighbors, family members, and clients."--BOOK JACKET.

South Africa and its fraught political economy provide a fascinating case study into how it takes a particular brand of genius to thrive in a difficult domestic environment and to take the ideas and the businesses that deliver them from local to global. Genius tells the stories of some of the extraordinary individuals, companies and industries whose ideas, products and raw materials solve problems and add value across the globe. Greatness comes from acting on purpose, and there is a generation of South Africans solving problems for the future. Learn how Pratley beat Armstrong to the moon, how a former Eskom quantity surveyor capitalised on Britain’s obsession with meerkats to create the UK’s most visible price comparison website, how to take a Mediterranean-style food concept to the Mediterranean, and how a device designed to beat diamond smuggling made it from the set of a popular US hospital drama into emergency rooms and pathology labs across the US. Genius examines what it takes to thrive in an increasingly complex, fast-paced and divisive global environment. These are lessons for anyone looking to succeed anywhere against the odds.

These proceedings provide an overview of the ongoing research and management activities on polar bears in the circumpolar arctic. Together with the previous 12 proceedings, they provide an historic record of international efforts in protecting polar bears from over-harvest and document more recent concerns of threats arising from increased human activities in both the Arctic and in regions far beyond the realm of polar bears. More proactive management is needed to address limitations in the knowledge of population dynamics. New information indicates that the greatest future challenges to polar bear conservation may be ecological change in the Arctic due to climate change and pollution. The complex, global nature of the issues requires international cooperation and development of diverse, new approaches to address them.
