Life is too short to gain all knowledge by personal experience; one needs to learn from the experiences of others. The best way to do this is through books. A short story deals with an issue generally faced by us at different stages in life and interestingly shows how to tackle it. Whether you agree with the author or not it is certainly educative. Stories may be short but their impact would continue to reverberate for a long time in the reader’s mind. Beware! Authors have a knack of casting a spell on you and attracting you to their point of view. Readers should step off from the author from time to time and reexamine author’s logic critically. This is a collection of stories; therefore I am giving a brief idea of each story. Time warp: One is likely to face several crossroads during life, at which one needs to take a decision. One’s experiences are one’s past; one’s expectations and ambitions are one’s future. The former tends to caution the latter. In this story both of them were personified and brought to the same plane as the present to advise Murthy who was at a crossroads in his life. Another world: This is fiction drifting into a fairy tale; it is a boy’s first contact with a raw unkind world. Crime and punishment: Some husbands are unreasonably cruel toward’s their wives. Once the torture crosses the limit of tolerance of the woman, she chooses an effective way to set things right. A.I.I.E. : Sometimes, well known persons might look bewitchingly attractive and make you run after them! So was it written: A construction worker found a copper plate which lured him to find the treasure. He succeeded but could not survive to enjoy the find! Divine justice: Disputing the parentage of a claimant, a greedy woman tried to grab that property by disputing the parentage of the claimant. Scientific evidence nailed her lie in the open court. Scorpion’s sting: In a weaker moment, even a good person might fall victim to evil influence. A circumstance might induce him to reform himself. A husband’s folly: Husband and wife should trust each other implicitly (In spite of occasional lapses). Extraction of truth: Professional etiquette is essential for every professional, more so for physicians. A tale of two ‘Friends’: Beware! Sometimes, we come across wicked persons who use friendship for purely selfish purposes.

A tale of two Friends: Beware! Sometimes, we come across wicked persons like Gireesh who use friendship for purely selfish purposes. Gireesh, Vagesa and Madhurima were college friends. Gireesh who could not tolerate Madhurima marrying Vagesa, Planned and killed Vagesa, in order to grab Madhurima. 2. Another world: This is fiction drifting into a fairy tale; it is Venkat's first contact with a raw unkind world.3. Unlike Narayana, husbands and wives should trust each other implicitly (Even in spite of occasional lapses).9. Extraction of truth: Professional etiquette is essential for every professional but more so for physicians. A small mistake of Dr.Satyamurthy and his effort to cover it up boom-ranged on him. He had to confess his involvement.10. Time warp: One is likely to face several crossroads during one's life, at which one needs to take a decision. Readers should step off from the author from time to time and reexamine author’s logic critically, to be able to decide for yourself. This is a collection of stories; therefore I am giving a brief idea of each story. Realization: Some persons are incapable to express or expose their love; they are often mistaken and families might get disrupted. A marriage is for a lifetime, in spite of occasional misunderstandings or lapses. Sleep walker: Sleep walking is an ailment; the afflicted person is unaware of what the person does or what is done to the person, during such a period; it can lead to a lot of misunderstanding. 7053: Sometimes a number may prove embarrassing! It can also lead to a happy consequence. An invasion history forgot to record: Sometimes miracles defy the greed of unjust invaders. A Deepavali gift: Some people are prejudiced against Birth-Control operation because they fear loss of potency due to the operation. What a marriage: There is a limit of tolerance even for a docile daughter-in-law; when the limit is crossed, she behaves differently. No vacancy: Some persons are proud about their beauty and expect the world to accord them primacy in all matters but life has its own norms and opportunities don’t keep waiting for anyone. Mangamma’s prowess: Some people profit by fooling gullible public. Can you blame one for adopting the same path when her husband is making merry with another woman? Awakening: It is time that persons are judged by their characters rather than by their birth. The umbrella: A school girl forgets her umbrella at the bus shelter; a student helps its restoration.

Examine a moving, personal narrative about growing up gay in the south! Students, teachers, and anyone interested in gay studies and experiences will find that The Mentor: A Memoir of Friendship and Gay Identity (a 2001 Lambda Literary Foundation Gay Male Biography/Autobiography Award finalist) delivers a captivating and honest look into the challenges of growing up gay through the context of firsthand experiences, revelations, and realizations. This unique book is an intelligent and personal narrative that considers the social, religious, and emotional aspects of what it is like to grow up as a gay male in the south and examines the enormous social changes regarding homosexuality that have taken place in America during the last half of the century. Written to reveal the importance of the author's mentor in helping him form his self-identity and educating him about being gay, this book challenges the stereotypical idea that, unlike heterosexuals, gay men are not able to form nurturing, fulfilling bonds between themselves. The Mentor delivers an inspiring story about accepting and understanding your sexuality with the help and guidance of other men who have traveled the road to a successful gay identity. This unique book offers the courage, strength, and support of a mentor to help guide you through the trials that many young gay men experience, such as: recognizing the possibilities of exploitation by older gay men due to a lack of emotional and social experience creating a loyal relationship with a man that does not include sex but which satisfies emotional needs that many gay men need and long for discovering the importance of a mentor to gay youths, since there are few homosexual role models to learn from Sincere and well-written, The Mentor provides insight into everything from the author's experience with intolerance of homosexuality by certain religions to struggles with fidelity and infidelity, illustrating the difficult yet universal challenges of life relationships. The Mentor contains suggestions that will help you recognize that your feelings of desire and love and your quest for human connection as a gay man are not the distorted reflections of a heterosexual image, but a healthy gay identity. With this unique book, you will discover how to make the shift from confusion to full acceptance of your gay identity, you will understand that you are not alone, and perhaps you will be encouraged to pass on the legacy of a mentor to other young gay men.

A taut and chillingly atmospheric debut that signals the arrival of a bright new voice in psychological suspense and "a brilliant analysis of an exceedingly twisted mind" (Chicago Tribune). Eighteen years ago, Billy Peters disappeared. Everyone in town believes Billy was murdered—after all, serial killer Arnold Avery later admitted killing six other children and burying them on the same desolate moor that surrounds their small English village. Only Billy’s mother is convinced he is alive. She still stands lonely guard at the front window of her home, waiting for her son to return, while her remaining family fragments around her. But her twelve-year-old grandson Steven is determined to heal the cracks that gape between his nan, his mother, his brother, and himself. Steven desperately wants to bring his family closure, and if that means personally finding his uncle’s corpse, he’ll do it. Spending his spare time digging holes all over the moor in the hope of turning up a body is a long shot, but at least it gives his life purpose. Then at school, when the lesson turns to letter writing, Steven has a flash of inspiration... Careful to hide his identity, he secretly pens a letter to Avery in jail asking for help in finding the body of "W.P."—William "Billy" Peters. So begins a dangerous cat-and-mouse game. Just as Steven tries to use Avery to pinpoint the gravesite, so Avery misdirects and teases his mysterious correspondent in order to relive his heinous crimes. And when Avery finally realizes that the letters he’s receiving are from a twelve-year-old boy, suddenly his life has purpose too. Although his is far more dangerous...
