When confidence is gone, business is gone. Individual salesmanship depends upon confidence as much as any other transaction in business. If a man has confidence in you and in your goods, you can sell him. You cannot make many sales where confidence is lacking. If your prospect lacks confidence in you, then your entire efforts must go to building up in his mind a feeling of confidence. Lack of confidence is usually due to ignorance. Unless you know a man well, you haven't confidence in him. Unless you know a business house well, you haven't confidence in that house. The greatest foe of ignorance is publicity. The saying that "publicity corrects all abuses" is a true one. Without a doubt, the greatest force today in the interest of confidence--in the interest of credit, if you will--is advertising. A conviction can only be determined upon the direct or circumstantial evidence that the plaintiff develops. In business these same principles are involved, and we find parallel conditions.
