Download Group Art Therapy in a Juvenile Detention Center Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
The use of therapist-chosen directives in an art therapy group with adolescents at a Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) was explored. The therapist-chosen directives based on projective techniques were useful with the adolescents to a point. My co-therapist and I decided that a different approach might be more beneficial for the group. The new technique was designed to allow group members to choose a theme together and create art within that framework. Different approaches and theories are discussed in a literature review about how group is useful with juvenile adolescents.

Download The Use of Art Therapy for Stress Management with Juvenile Delinquents Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
This one time intervention study evaluated the effects of art making on stress management in juvenile offenders at the Bridgeport Detention Center. The 20 detainees participated in one of two groups, an intervention group receiving art therapy or a control group playing board games. Both groups were given a pre- and post-test self-report questionnaire to measure stress levels (Psychological Stress Measure (PSM-9)). The data collected from each group were analyzed, and showed a slight decrease in stress in the intervention group, but less change in the control group. However, the decreased stress level scores for the intervention group were not statistically significant.

Download Art Therapy Practices for Resilient Youth Book in PDF, ePub and Kindle
Art Therapy Practices for Resilient Youth highlights the paradigm shift to treating children and adolescents as "at-promise" rather than "at-risk." By utilizing a strength-based model that moves in opposition to pathology, this volume presents a client-allied modality wherein youth are given the opportunity to express emotions that can be difficult to convey using words. Working internationally with diverse groups of young people grappling with various forms of trauma, 30 contributing therapists share their processes, informed by current understandings of neurobiology, attachment theory, and developmental psychology. In addition to guiding principles and real-world examples, also included are practical directives, strategies, and applications. Together, this compilation highlights the promise of healing through the creative arts in the face of oppression.
