A Precious Fountain is a work of liturgical ethnography that probes the rich liturgical life of one worshiping community whose roots and practices are at once Black and Catholic, using music as a primary lens through which to explore the community's liturgy and embodied theology. Our Lady of Lourdes community in San Francisco is part of a larger event in the American church: the emergence of a new paradigm of Catholic worship, one that is "authentically Black and truly Catholic." Mary E. McGann, RSCJ, describes how the music worship of Our Lady of Lourdes in San Francisco not only enriches that community but also is an example of how a theology of music is practiced in that parish. She offers this new genre of liturgical literature that brings to light how God?s Spirit is working in the churches through the idioms, perceptions, and insights of specific ethno-cultural communities in this time of massive cultural change and globalization.

Born and raised in the island of Montreal, Quebec, Sheldine Altidor is happy to say that growing here, definitely has its share of interesting experiences thus far. Surrounded by a family enriched with the gifts of music, art and poetry, most importantly, heavenly inspired by Jesus Christ, has kindled within her the desire to write this book. It relates to our current state of mind, as well as similar life like experiences. This book is compiled with poetry based on life experiences in terms of our struggles and victories, history, prophecy according to the Bible and most importantly, how God relates Himself to His children. It defines the love of God and His purpose for mankind, it defines who she is as an individual, and as His princess. Likewise, it is aforementioned about her testimony of what God has done for her, and what He can do for you. The purposes He has intended for our lives then, now and forevermore. Hence, "Rhymes & Reason" is the name given, because life is full of poetry and reason. For reasoning is indeed healthy for the mind, as well it is for the soul. May you be richly blessed, as the King of reason Himself longs to reason with you. May He reach our hearts through this poetry of love. Her desire through this book, is for you to have a personal close relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Reverential, celebratory, antagonistic, and even erotic, this remarkable collection of essays interprets the Psalms as a collection of poetry. Written by 14 acclaimed poets, the essays approach the Psalms from a personal, often autobiographical perspective, demonstrating how relevant they remain for today’s readers. Alicia Ostriker examines the Psalms’ glory and their terror in a moving essay that revels in their moods of joy while acknowledging the brutality they invoke, linking their violence to events such as 9/11, the Palestinian uprisings, and the Rwandan massacres. Weaving autobiographical anecdotes with scholarly introspection, Enid Dame provides a Jewish explanation of Psalm 22, while editor Lynn Domina contemplates the pastoral life as she connects the everyday with phrases from the Psalms. From a former nun to a self-described left-wing Jew, from a Midrashic scholar to a Texas rancher, the contributors mirror the wide swath of humanity interested in, and affected by, the Psalms.

Gustaf Aulen's classic work, 'Christus Victor', has long been a standard text on the atonement. Aulen applies history of ideas' methodology to historical theology in tracing the development of three views of the atonement. Aulen asserts that in traditional histories of the doctrine of the atonement only two views have usually been presented, the objective/Anselmian and the subjective/Aberlardian views. According to Aulen, however, there is another type of atonement doctrine in which Christ overcomes the hostile powers that hold humanity in subjection, at the same time that God in Christ reconciles the world to Himself. This view he calls the "classic" idea of the atonement. Because of its predominance in the New Testament, in patristic writings, and in the theology of Luther, Aulen holds that the classic type may be called the distinctively Christian idea of the atonement.
