The price of freedom is getting high. A bored and restless 15-year-old named Floyd Wolf foolishly ingests a powerful psychoactive drug called Blue Horse, but he isn't prepared for the ensuing mental chaos that permanently alters his perceptions. When the coincidental death of his mother further burdens him with a guilt complex the size of Detroit, he leaves home with his pals for California but winds up hitchhiking back across the country alone, searching for peace of mind in a world that seems to be conspiring against him. Only the vague memories of a girl and his formerly happy existence, keeps him putting one foot in front of the other despite his mental malady. In the end, Floyd's paranoia must prove to be either well founded or schizophrenic. Rhapsody In Overdrive chronicles his anguished attempt to go back home again. There's nothing funny about a bad acid flashback, but this psychological adventure story is not without comic relief.

After eleven years on the anchor desk at TV4, Ashley Giraud is one of the most beloved figures in Tampa Bay. That's how she likes her love—distant and impersonal. Outwardly sociable with her coworkers and viewers, she can't wait to get back to her gated home and garden. When her longtime stylist goes out of business, she follows a colleague's recommendation to Rhapsody, a small salon that serves as a hub for an eclectic group of lesbian friends. Despite Ashley's efforts to remain aloof, she soon trades her solitude for roller skates, swing dancing and the emotional ups and downs of new friends. Never before has she felt so contented in the company of other women. Even so, there's always the whisper from the past. Would any of them, especially Julia Whitethorn, the charismatic, appealing owner of Rhapsody, care about her if they knew the terrible secret she's kept for twenty years? Lambda Literary Award winner KG MacGregor spins a story about the power of secrets and the risks of love with her trademark wit and insight.

The Intellectual Handyman On Art is a compilation of Gary Peterson essays pertaining to the arts and sciences, mostly. Being an author, artist, and musician, Peterson has the tools to construct elaborate mental scenarios whether he's waxing analytic about art aesthetics or just tinkering with wordplay. He can turn a phrase with a pipe wrench or warp your perspective with a french curve. His essays are tributes to critical thinking, each one crafted like a top-forty pop song with the rigor of a doctoral thesis. These ruminations provide high-grade literary nourishment for your left brain, supplemented with enough humor, passion and warm fuzzy sentiment to tickle your right cortex as well. And illustrations aplenty. You don't need a PhD to enjoy these philosophical anecdotes, but it couldn't hurt. You can read The Intellectual Handyman On Art at the beach, bus stop, or in the staid ambience of your estate library, all with the same result: edutainment of the first order.

If the Watergate scandal was a previous generation's National Nightmare, then maybe the Clinton scandal was our National Wet Dream, and who better to narrate it than the screenwriter Joe Eszterhas? In American Rhapsody, Eszterhas, whose credits include Basic Instinct and Showgirls, and Charlie Simpson's Apocalypse, for which he was nominated for a National Book Award, takes us through the events that threatened to topple a president and left most of the nation's citizens with, at the very least, a bad taste in their mouths. Taking full advantage of his considerable journalistic and storytelling talents, Eszterhas gives us every fact, rumor, or innuendo surrounding the president's foibles in the context of late century American politics and entertainment. Here Washington and Hollywood do more than just flirt with each other; they share the same bed. From scandalmongers Matt Drudge (who began as a Hollywood gossip) and Ken Starr, to would-be president paramours Sharon Stone and Barbra Streisand, to his final, unimpeachable witness, Willard—none other than President Clinton's talking penis—Eszterhas gives us the goods on the story that nobody could stop talking about and, thanks to American Rhapsody, will be impossible to think about the same way again.
