"Revolving Doors" is an adult, autobiographical novel in which 'Richard', now in his sixties, recalls incidents of his nightmarish first five years of childhood, while fostered through seventeen residences as a ward of Toronto's "S.W.York Co. Children's Aid Society". From his perspective and understanding as a small child, he shares graphic details of memories of unspeakably perverse mistreatment, including perpetual neglect, abuse, molestation and worse. After years of counselling and treatment for ensuing, debilitating mental illnesses, "Richard" experienced a "black-out", resulting in the sudden awareness of long-buried, traumatic memories. The author furnishes vivid details of her brother's incredible story by interweaving his recollections, and relentless nightmares, with documentation from the organizations involved. It is "Richard's" most sincere desire that his story of ultimate survival might encourage similar abuse victims who may be searching for hope in facing and fighting their own "demons".

44 Scotland Street -- Book 10 Excitement abounds when the revolving door of life brings fresh faces and hilarious new developments to the residents of 44 Scotland Street. Things are looking up for seven-year-old Bertie Pollock. The arrival of his spirited grandmother and the absence of his meddlesome mother—who is currently running a book club in a Bedouin harem (don’t ask)—bring unforeseen blessings: no psychotherapy, no Italian lessons, and no yoga classes. Meanwhile, surprises await Scotland Street’s grown-ups. Matthew makes a discovery that could be a major windfall for his family, but also presents a worrisome dilemma. Pat learns a secret about her father’s fiancée that may shake up her family, unless she can convince the perpetually narcissistic Bruce to help her out. And the Duke of Johannesburg finds himself in sudden need of an explanation—and an escape route—when accosted by a determined guest at a soirée. From the cunning schemes of the Association of Scottish Nudists to the myriad expressive possibilities of the word “aye,” Alexander McCall Smith guides us through the risks and rewards of friendship, love, and family with his usual inimitable wit and irresistible charm.

From the winner of the Forbes FYI Treasure Hunt comes a humorous look at living with a revolving door of roommates following the demise of his short “training” marriage. Roommates that were initially tolerated only because they were needed to help care for his Golden Retriever Sandy but inevitably became memorable characters that enriched his life as well as their own. Sandy was always at his side throughout this entire time, providing the stability and love that was needed, as they went through roommate after roommate together. Some of these roommates eventually became good friends and some did not, but all of them were unique and interesting in their own special way. Revolving Doors is full of funny, colorful and complicated stories based on these evolving characters as they gradually matured to meet their full potential in life. Many readers in the baby boomers generation will be able to relate to these roommate experiences from their own past relationships before “growing up” and settling down. Phrases such as “You just can’t make this stuff up” and “truth is more unbelievable than fiction” will undoubtedly resonate with readers as they associate themselves with one or more of these endearing characters. The author also incorporates numerous other characters and events from his summers in a group beach house at Dewey Beach, DE spent with others who also were looking to escape from the realities of life. In addition, the author chronicles the adventures which led to the discovery of a buried case of 1982 Chateau Latour in the Forbes FYI treasure hunt contest of 1998, leading to his own fifteen minutes of fame celebrating the victory with the Forbes staff in their New York City corporate headquarters wine cellar.
